Consistant and accurate powder measure?

Do you have any interference between the two IR readers on the two RCBS Charge masters working in tandum?

Nat,
I have had two powdermaster dispensers and scales set up on the same bench for years and now a third with the new 1500 rangemaster with no problems. I have found the 1500 is not nearly as sensitive to outside interference as the powdermasters are.

I've got two chargemasters right next to each other for the pre-weigh and then an Acculab VIC123 right next to those for the final weigh: no problems and I've verified plenty of times with checkweights. About 90% of the time, the chargemasters are about +-.04gr the final charge weight. once every 20 shots or so, it is a 0.10gr off and once in 100-200 weighs it is .20gr off. Also, note that the chargemaster re-weighs after the final trickle and it does catch the charges that are +-.10gr or more. so, you just pour that back into the hopper. So, with the chargemasters alone, you can keep the weigh inside of +-.1 grains no problem and you can go really fast with the two of them humming away. When you want to get things inside +-.04 gr, then add the VIC123 as a final weigh. Of course, this slows things down, but you can still get a rate of about 2-3 per minute.

PS. The inaccuracy in the chargemaster throws come mostly from clumps of powder coming out and I don't see any way to really prevent that from happening once in a while. Long story short, I think this setup is as good as it gets with a decent speed of throwing.

If you want maximum speed without a VIC123, you will need 3 chargemasters. Then, you'll be pouring powder into cases about as fast as you can go. :-)

The straw trick pretty well takes care of that, it does slow it down a bit though.

I use the straw trick...and still get overflows once in a while. I think the only way to truly fix it would be a redesign where the final weigh comes from a much narrower tube that single-threads the kernals. Maybe this new "super-chargemaster would have two dispensers: a main one and then trickler. :-)

Good idea, I think Lyman used to make a dispenser / scale like that, as I recall the dispenser had two tubes, a larger faster one and a smaller slower one for trickling into a pan on a balance beam scale.

I installed a potentiometer inline with the motor feed to tune that final slowest trickle for better dropping of different powders.
This has worked well

Mike,
Are you saying you placed a potentiometer on the 1500 chargemaster or some other unit? my 1500 final trickle is so slow right now you can barley detect it is moving, although there are parameters you can change to slow the delivery rate down so you wouldn't have to install a pot which would slow down h-m, and slow speeds, I would think your always having to fiddle with it.

For those who like to trickle up to weight there is always this option. A neat idea and the music in the video alone is worth the watch :D http://www.targetmasteruk.com/

I have one it works well, in conjunction with a thrower set low and trickle up. It is very well constructed.

Saves lugging the chargemaster around if you are away from home. He wasn't shipping overseas for a while as he was snowed under but I think that has changed as he sent one to me.

Wayne , I just bought the omega , it arrived today . it is lifetime guaranteed to the original purchaser . I'll be playing with it in the next day or two . I'll let you know what I think . I ordered sunday received it today . I had it shipped usps flat rate for $16.?? . ups shipping was $32.?? and I doubt it would have been any quicker . I live in Pa . Jim

Jim,
I don't want to steal this thread for other purposes so if you would p.m me your findings of the Omega I would greatly appreciate it.

Wayne I bought the target master and have combined it with a tuned scale from sparker (that scale is wickedly sensitive)...been watching this thread with interest....

Allan will definitely ship overseas (in my case UK - NZ..bought 2 months ago). I am very happy with the unit and the service from both sparker for the scale and Allan with the target master.

The solution you go after is going to depend a lot on your requirements...

Happy to PM you with my thoughts if you like...

Wayne,
Absolutely, please do I am very interested in both the scales and the targetmaster.

For anyone interested in seeing a tuned set of scales and the Targetmaster trickler system in action, it was featured in a Daily Bulletin article a while ago.
