concerned about barrel weight

Hi guys, I am new to benchrest shooting, shot 1 match had alot of fun and now i am planning a build. How heavy can a barrel be without putting too much stress on an action? specificly I was thinking about a 1.25 in. straight tube on a remington 700 action with out a barrel block.Too heavy? any info would be appreciated. Thanks --A D

I've heard the long heavy barrels can cause problems with vertical stringing. I shoot a 1.25 straight tube on my 6br that is 21" long and it hasn't caused me any problems. Good shooting, Brian.

Don't know what BR match you attended, but read the rules before you decide on a straight barrel. Many disciplines do not allow a straight barrel.

Thanks for the info ,I will have to read over the rules before making a final choice about barrel contour.

AD,

NBRSA match? or long range?

18" TO 24" is doable, for longer bbls it is recommend to bed 2 to 4" in forend. most custom actions have longer and or larger bbl shank.
