Component Advancements "Incredible"!

IN the last several years we have seen the advancement of components like never before. In years past (I hate to reveal how many) we saw new powders and bullets. However, they were just that, "new" but in reality just an additional powder or bullet with no real advancements.. NOW we see, especially powders, that are REALLY temperature stable, with increased velocity gains, filling "empty" spots on the burn rate charts etc..
With the advent of the "Hybrid" bullets from Berger, to several excellent "boutique" match bullets, have given us not only more choices BUT BETTER choices! Barrels made to such exacting standards that getting a "bummer" as opposed to a "hummer" is rare indeed these days. I remember when if you got a "hummer" barrel, you had a real and rare "prize"! Not so anymore! It seems that we are breaking "National Records" at a "record" pace!
I am not even talking about scope advancements and advancements in stock design(s) etc.. Just the loading components. The "scores" are getting into the ionosphere and some are going to last a L-O-N-G time>>> or will they?? We are getting accuracy at 1000 yards that would have been a pipe-dream just a scant few years ago! We ought to thank these component makers for all that they do for OUR enjoyment at the range! Now that is MY "rant"! LOL!!!

When I looked down at my 1000 yard target with a naked eye at a recent State LR Championship match, and realized I need to put nearly 1/2 of all 120 scored shots into an 5" Xring to be competitive that weekend, part of me smiled and the other part shed a tear. I think both reactions are valid though.

Well I know what your are saying! My long-range shooting leaves quite a bit to be desired! The better the components get, the better the really good shooters score>>>>leaving me in the proverbial dust! But that's okay, because I love watching the incredible scores being posted!

I hear what you are saying and it is 100% true. But, and there is always a but the prices are so great on some of these products they are unobtainable to lots of the shooters here. That said I think barrels have stayed the same price wise. All the choices we have on quality brass now is a real treat.

And I thought I was just becoming a better shooter. Love them Hybrids. Mike

Pretty interesting looking back at old longrange scores and match results from even 10 years ago.
Periodically, I used to look back at the "Club Championship" scores at Bayou Rifles from say 2010. Those scores WON the club championship at a club with many, many excellent shooters, that would not even be in 15th place anymore!

Hmmm??? I wonder how much the internet has contributed to this. Seems shooters are able to share information, like we see on this web site, like never before. The good and bad of various ideas and experiences spread around so quickly has got to be a benefit to the shooting community, huh?

Without a doubt, the internet's power of communication has accelerated technical advancements. While good reviews have helped manufactures, bad reviews have equally aided in forcing them to quality and advancement. As has the competition between manufactures, to determining there fate, that also endorses quality and advancement to us, the consumers, greatly.
Just my 2-Cents

Even rimfire has seen this kind of improvement.
Ara target of 2300 use to be a good target. Now 6 of those will get you 3 - 5th place at a national.

In 10 years, there’s about just one item that’s come to be on nearly all the f-Open equipment lists, and lots of TR. The shorter, far more talented one of these guys has quietly helped us from the Far East. Thank you Mr. Lambang. “Seb”.

I've been involved in the shooting sports / hunting for over 50 years and I'm totally amazed at the advancement in bullet design and quality. Also the advancement in factory ammunition - truly good stuff - much better than when I started.

I'm even more amazed at the changes in rifle scopes - just wished they hadn't abandon the 1" tube diameter high quality scopes with parallex adjustments and simple duplex reticles like the old Leupold 4 x 12 and 6 x 18 VX2's which were fine for the average shooter / hunter and reasonably priced - not everyone needs to shoot a 1,000 yards. There are still a lot of us average guys (100 - 300 yard shooters) out there.

Sad to see the decline of the Remington 700's however. These were great rifles with great triggers.

Also today's beginning reloader has access to a lot of excellent resources which I didn't.
