completely puzzled

I bought a Remington Sendero in 7mm rum. I tried 162 amax and after only a few different loads was able to get just under the 3/4 inch group. I tried a few more groups of this load just to be sure and it was consistent. I then tried 160 accubond and it was around 5/8ths but of course I wondered if I could get it even better. SO,I took it apart and bedded it with devcon. Now it was shooting the accubonds anywhere from 1/4 to 3/8ths. I was very pleased with this. SO I decided to try the amax again which were now grouping 5-11 inches!!!! I tried berger 168 and they were even worse a 8-15 inch groups!!!!
So, I try a few more groups of the accubonds and the are all 5/8 ths or less....
The gun now has a total of 82 shots out of it..
All groups were shot at 100 yards.
What the heck is going on???

If you got it to shoot 1/4 to 3/8 why would you want to start over? Is it inconsistent with that load? May be you need to develop the Amax, and Berger load a little more.

I understand what you are saying but I don't want a one trick pony. Last night I was racking my brain about it . When I thought about it I theorized the accubonds were shooting good because the bearing surface is so much longer that they were in affect much closer to the lands. I also figured the action must be torqued to be throwing the others so far out. I also noticed upon further inspection that the aluminum block in the hs precision stock is actually in the stock crooked and canted!!! So this morning I put the action/barrel in a BDL stock and bingo , problem solved.
So I an going to remove all the bedding and either:
A) try and get a new stock with a properly installed bedding block
B) drill out the pillars slightlyt larger( because the action screws are binding on the pillars because the bedding block is in so crooked) and rebed the whole action.

I will let you know how it all turns out

Glad to see you figured it out. So all bullets you mentioned shoot well in the other stock? I am interested in hearing your results.
I had a heck of a time finding a load that would shoot under a minute with my Rem 700 BDL in 30-06. Turned out to be the scope mounts. now I get a consistent .8" to .75" with the right loads.

If you keep the stock and re-bed it I would suggest fitting the action to the block, by scraping the high spots on the block. You don't have to get it perfect, but certainly straight. Once it sits right, then you can use the Devcon to provide the perfect bed.

Action screws need clearence. Bedding should be done without pulling the action into the devcon with the action screws, use studs to only guide the action. I use surgical tubing wraped around the stock and action to pull them together.

Bad bedding isn't gonna have a negitive effect with only certain bullets and not others so I doubt that its the issue.

I would tend to think that if you can get one bullet to shoot that well then the setup has great potential you just need to work with the loading more. In my experiance the VLD style bullet like to be seated to the lands and not pushed overly hard.

I'd back off the powder about 5-8gr under grains under max and seat the bullets to kiss the lands then sneek up on the powder slowly
