Those rules can be so confusing. There is a course of fire with all three distances but I saw one for all 600. How can they put them both in mid range prone?

Jenniffer, you are right tho, look at the HPR 2018 rulebook, chapter 17. Mid Range Prone course is 20 shots at 300, 500 and 600. There is no Mid Range Prone Course for 60 shots at 600 yds, not in the rulebook anyway. Not sure where Norm is getting his info, or even if the rulebook is correct.

@skibar_tx @Jennb ...If you look at what I posted Dewayne Draggoo and Danny Biggs both shot those records at the BSWN's,,they don't shoot 300-500-600 there only 600,,,as far as I know 2017 was the first year for this record.

Sometimes I think the NRA does not know their own rule book.

You might be right, that it can be any distance as long as it is either 300, 500 or 600. Under courses of fire i found this note:

7.20 Mid-Range Prone Courses—

Note: The Mid-Range Course of fire may be shot in any combination at 300, 500, or 600 yds

The thing I don't like about mixing and matching is that someone could have 3 strings at 300 yds and set a national record. Comparing 300 yd match to a 600 yd match is like comparing apples to oranges. Just another rule that needs some work done to it.

I recently shot what would have been a record at 300 under that assumption. A phone call to NRA said it did not meet course of fire. F Class has its owncourse of fire separate from HP

I don't think you can simply pick any one of the three. In the past, the NRA records listed were always from matches where they really did shoot the 300/500/600 format. Given that a lot of MR matches shot in this country (registered or not) use the 3x20@600 format, you'd think there should be an NRA record for it. I suspect there are far more 3x600 matches fired than 300/500/600.

Match target? If possible, I try to compare my target with others on the same relay. I had a target this past summer that looked a bit odd - strung out 45 degrees. Was it the load or conditions? I was able to compare my target to the shooter that shot next to me (we essentially shot at the same time, same cartridge, same bullet weight/brand).

We practically had identical targets (group size, location and angle).
