I agree with Matt 100%....without knowing all the particulars and based solely off the group pictured..I'd say the powder charge isn't quite right.

It would also be good to see the shot order. A condition can blow your group vertical like that as well. If they alternated high and low, then its less likely a condition. But if they went in an order like below, the condition would likely have gotten you. Or the opposite but still similar order you would have caught the end of a condition between sight in and the ol famous "commence fire" (for record string)

Ok I'm going to post this question for discussion to see different opions and what is average answers. If this was your target and you wanted to shrink your group at 1000. Would you start with seating depth or powder charge?View attachment 1088212

The group is only around 3 inches wide and 8.5 inches tall, so I believe it is mostly load. Inconsistent shoulder pressure can cause some of it also. I prefer to tune at distance i will be competing at. I feel when you get it right, it tends to shoot through conditions. A ladder will help find your node. It is also very important to have the parallax out of the scope.

It would maybe help to know the cartridge, bullet, primer, powder and load. Matt

Just outta curiosity what does my load info have to do with anything? All i was asking if it was your group and you had to change one thing which would you choose to start adjusting? I truly appreciate all that responded and respect all replies! But really come on does it really need to get that complicated? ????

Load information helps determine wind bucking ability. My 6 br will drift around 56 inches with a 5 mph full value or so the computer says.
The reason I asked about the tailwind from 5-6 is the upper left hits on paper. I'm assuming that you took your best load to a 1000 yard event.

Tried a new bullet and load no testing was done prior. It is very difficult to shoot here this time of year. Only one year under my belt shooting this discipline. Just wanted to see general thinking we’re to start adjusting.? Tuning time very limited and no long range handy to do so.

Match target? If possible, I try to compare my target with others on the same relay. I had a target this past summer that looked a bit odd - strung out 45 degrees. Was it the load or conditions? I was able to compare my target to the shooter that shot next to me (we essentially shot at the same time, same cartridge, same bullet weight/brand).

We practically had identical targets (group size, location and angle).

Because certain powders and combinations seem to go together, like ice cream and Apple pie. Also if was a WSM or Dasher, by knowing what your shooting I could help you maybe to get there faster. I havent shot a 6.5x47 but i think your load is wrong. Maybe a little light. From what I know of the best 6.4x47, they are shooting H4350 and Reloader 16 or 17. Matt

Mr. PAHunter, I believe that dkhunt is correct, your load needs tweaking! You state that you are shooting a 6.5 x 47 with a 108 Lapua Scenar. The bullet is a "light for caliber" bullet. Nothing wrong with that. However, you stated you were using 37.5grs of Varget. I can tell you from experience that 37.5grs will be useful for 123s and 130 class bullets. At 108grs I would consider starting out at 38.5grs of Varget and work towards 40.0grs. I believe you are a bit light on charge weight. I am currently on my 5th 6.5 x 47..

ShootDots is right on. If you’re going to shoot 1K with a 6.5x47 you should really look at 140’s or at least 130’s

The vertical error caused by head (12 o'clock) or tail (6) winds is almost exactly the amount caused by velocity spread.

A 10 mph wind moves almost 15 fps. Add a tail wind wind speed in fps to muzzle velocity in software to get a good estimate of how much higher it will strike. Subtract for headwinds. JBM ballistics has inputs for wind speed and direction, as does some others.
