Competition Hot Spots???

i thought texas was out of the question for me but mabie not thanks
Hoz53 the New Braunfels area is a nice place to live and like Steve said you have us then 3 hrs away you have Bayou range which is great range and people and then 4 1/2 hrs away you have Midland as far as f/class then all kinds of prs type stuff and 3gun.

SE TX has Bayou Rifles and GTGC which have lots of high power and F-Class matches. Palo Alto (Near Baton Rouge) is only a few hours away.

N GA has RBGC and CGC providing a nice mix of high power, F-Class, smallbore, and tactical rifle, with 3-gun also. PCGC, Talladega CMP, Chatanooga, Oak Ridge, and Tullahoma are just a few hours away.

Wherever you live, the size of your driving radius will impact your options. N GA and SE TX both can put you within an hour of two great gun clubs with lots of rifle options.

Huntsville, TX is a pretty good spot for informal and sanctioned competition. It's not far from the above mentioned Bayou. There's Walker County Benchrest just north of town for short range BR & Shatterblast to 400 yards. Pine Valley hosts 600 yard pg matches and 500M Fly Shoots just south of town. Tomball is pretty close. New Braunfells is in play. Head north on I-45 and you can shoot Varmint Benchrest Silhouette. If you're willing to get up a little earlier or spend the night, that brings a half dozen more into play - Denton, Small Groups in Commerce, Arlington Sportsman, Graham & the rest of the TX Benchrest circuit venues.

Now, whether or not you'd want to live in Huntsville... That's another question.

We have many residents in Huntsville that are not here by choice.
But we do have lots of shooting in Texas, not including drivebys

I'm surprised no one said Phoenix, AZ. There are four outdoor rifle ranges all approximately 30-45 minutes away from anywhere in the valley. One of which is Ben Avery Shooting Facility. shooting takes place year round and there is a match at one of the facilities almost every weekend. Rifle Silhouette, Smallbore, Benchrest, High Power, Prone, and F-Class. Then throw in all of the other state ranges. 3 Points in Tucson, 7 Mile in Kingman, Sierra Vista, and the other 5.

There is a reason I have heard some refer to Phoenix as the shooting capital of the US.

Thanks- yes the driving radius is one of the big things im thinking of.

What type of discipline are you looking for? I have shot 13 different matches and drove to all of them. I live near Muncie, Indiana. PM and I will get you some info. I don't shoot at Harlan anymore but I think they started having 3 gun competitions.

If you are in LaGrange, you are not far from me. I live just across the Michigan state line from Elkhart, IN. Hillsdale is probably closest for you. I shoot there regularly when there is not a MWVMS match going on somewhere else and it is a two hour drive for me. I went over there 3 weekends a month for matches before I got so involved with MWVMS. Google mapping the range at 3835 S. Bird Lake Rd, Osseo, MI shows it to be just over an hour from LaGrange.

Speaking of MWVMS, you should check out their new website. It describes the most awesome benchrest varmint matches in the MidWest and all of the participating ranges. All of them are closer to you than they are to me.

Draw a triangle between Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga. Find a spot.

Russ Theurer described that once as the holy land of shooting or something like that. There are 1000 yard ranges within about an hour in every direction. You can shoot a barrel out of a 308 every yr if you are so inclined.

Getting ready to open Dead Zero range about an hour from downtown Chattanooga. Should say it's open but the 1000'yd range is still under construction. Can't wait on it either. More places to shoot the better.

thanks those 1000 yd ranges are the ones i want to live close to.

There is no competition around here. Not even a club with weekend local shoots. Where are the areas with the most competition activity going on in the country. Im talking a variety of disciplines in rifle competitions. Thanks

Here's one that is just around the corner from you on the southwest side of Ft. Wayne. http://www.hillsideshootingsports.com/ I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. They have some longer range benches there too as I recall if that's what you're wanting to do. WD
