Comparing dies ???

Doe anyone know if the Redding Type S FL Bushing Die----without a bushing----is
considered to be the dimensional equivalent of their body die ?

I have both just bought the FL Bushing die. They seem to be very close to the same. Don't know if this will help. I just measured a fired case not resized in both dies from the case head face to the bottom of the die there was .001 difference.

I have both from Redding. Been a long time since I used the standard FL die but I do not recall them sizing the body any more or less than the S.

I may be wrong here, but the couple I checked body vs FL, the body die reduced the base @ .200 about .001 more than the standard FL die. The body die should give similar results to a small base die.

Please do not take this the wrong way but I would contact Redding and ask what their plus and minus diameter tolerances are for their dies. And if their body dies are kept to the same diameter and headspace tolerance.

When measuring case body diameter after sizing, brass spring back and pausing at the top of the ram stroke for a given time effects case diameter and shoulder location. Meaning the longer the case remains inside the sizing die the less spring back you will have and the smaller and more uniform the case dimensions will be.

I just finished talking to Redding about any different shoulder set-back capability
between the Type S FL dies and the Body dies. We didn't talk about any diameter
differences.

I was told not to expect any such differences----I was about ready to order a
body die but now don't think it'll be any different.

A case sized in my Type S die measures-----on the comparator----the same as
The Pacific Go Gage. In other words, the unmodified die and an unmodified shell
holder produce a case that is very close to SAAMI minimum.

Without modifying this die or shell holder, I can't get this die to produce a shorter case.

Now I finally know.
