combination sight and scope mount

I have seen pictures of rear sights mounted on a Picatinny rail base that will also take a forward mounted scope for prone. Does anyone know who makes the base?
Thanks for your replies in advance.

Bob,
Why not simply use a rearsight with a Picatiny base? It fits then directly on the rail with no offset problems... and can go on any rifle with no more extra than a Weaver/Picatiny standard interface...

Robert,

I have never heard anyone personally state that there is or was ever an ofset problem with Alan's combo mount. It is a pretty sweet deal.

Froggy,
There is no standard offset dimension for side mounting sight bases from various manufacturers be it actions or sights... I can quote variations of up to 5mm (.200) depending on the combo sight/bracket/action, not accounting variations in height varying from orizontal centre (TMAC) to 16mm (3/8) for Paramount/RPA or Redfields.

One given offst bracket combo can be OK for a given combination but, for an other, the offset result in that the windage rifle zero is not in the centre of the slide, giving more travel in one way and less in the other....

Incorrect height combination also impair the elevation travel available. This might be less mportant with height-adjustable frontsights, but not all shooters use one, and manufacturers should take care of this...
The only logical way is to fix a sight centrally, on the top of action, by way of an Anschutz-type dovetail or Weaver/Picatiny prism. This makes the sight and action automatically in the same vertical axis. Also, it is accurately lenghtwise adjustable...

This is what smallbore competition and scopes manufactuersrs/shooters perfectly understand....

There has been post on this subject here recntly already.
