Colt AR trigger recommendations

I’ve got a Colt AR in 5.56 that my 9 year old is starting to shoot. With the adjustable stock the gun fits him pretty well. Biggest problem is the trigger pull weight (I don’t know what the factory weight is but it’s pretty damn stuff). He has a hard time with a slow trigger press while staying on target. What would you guys recommend for a trigger. Doesn’t need to be fancy, just simple to install and adjust. Thanks

I have a Geislle 2 stage in my Colt and love it. It comes with three sets os springs and is fully adjustable

I have an old Colt AR CAR with a Jewell (2-stage 1#/2#) trigger, which I like really well. I don't think Jewell makes them anymore, but have seen some used ones in the $100 range. I also have a Geissele 2-stage (1.2#/1.2#) "match rifle" trigger in my AR Match Rifle that is amazing.

The LaRue Tactical MBT-25 is a two stage trigger factory set for 4.5 lbs. It is a smooth and crisp trigger that your boy should have no trouble with.
I installed one in a friends AR15. Price is good, installation is easy and it works great. If you feel you need more trigger weight it ships with a heaver spring to bring the trigger up to 6 lbs.

For more $, there's the Trigger Tech adaptable - very light first stage, total weight adjustable from 2.5lbs to 5lbs.
TT's are very crisp.

Both the LaRue and Rock River Arms 2 stage triggers work well. The LaRue probably a little better. With a 2# first stage and 2.5# second, they are easy to shoot well, but add a good level of safety for a young shooter.

Rock River National Match with JP or KAW Valley Trigger Springs. Very smooth but the Geiselle is top of the line but pricey. Trigger Tech is pretty good also. Timney also makes one for AR’s but I don’t know anything about them.

You might want to determine the diameter of the trigger pins before you make any decisions. Colt made receivers with .154" pins and .169" pins.
Thanks for the tip! Next obvious question, anyone know the trigger pin size on a Colt LE6940 purchased in 2009?

All the aforementioned triggers are great triggers but all a considerable expense my stag had way too much travel was very rough I could actually feel it move to or three times before the break I got one of these trigger kits after my friend at the range recommended them take a chance it could be the best $20 you’ve ever spent

Rock river Arms has a two stage varmint trigger ($95) that I replaced my triggers with and couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Highly recommend it !

A Geissele SSA-E would be a good choice. A 2 stage will teach him better trigger control than a single stage. The Geissele will drop right in and no adjustment to futz with.

Indeed, be sure to check this. As for triggers there’s Geissele and then there’s “almost as good for less money.” And they are almost as good. Almost.

Geissele G2S or SSA is what I use. G2S is a bit cheaper and still very good. I also have the new Centurion Arms 2 stage. It’s a lot of trigger for $93. Very similar to the SSA but feels slightly heavier on the first stage.
