Collet die for 6X47L

Anybody tried using the 6ppc Lee Collet Die on a 6X47L? I realize you would have to shim between the shell holder and the base of the die. I know Lee leaves room in the shoulder area, but the 6x47 shoulder might touch. The 6ppc Collet is supposed to work on the 6BR and it has about the same shoulder dimension as the 6x47, the 6x47 is just longer.

I haven't used one but it might work. Hard to know until it's tried. I don't have a 6PPC collet or I would test it out for you.

Really I wish that Lee would start making dies for some of the newer cartridges. I actually like their dies a lot even though I also have plenty of Redding and Forester. A lot of the younger crowd that I shoot with assume I've lost my mind when I tell them that the Lee powder measure is the most accurate one made (even compared to my Culver type) or that the Lee dies give me the most consistent OAL when I use the Giraud trimmer. I fear that they will loose the newest generation by only making the tried and true that's been around forever. I believe that last I checked, they weren't taking orders for custom dies either.

I agree, their powder measures work just fine......I have 2 of them. I wish they would expand the Collet die line and include some of the newer cartridges. I have always felt the Lee stuff worked well and very well for the price.

I use a 7-08 collet to size my 7x444, just add washers for shims. I just figured somebody had tried a 6x47L in a 6 ppc collet. It is pretty easy to go longer but if you go shorter it involves major alterations to the die.

bsekf, I use the 6PPC collet for 6BR brass and use a half inch washer of .042" to insure not sizing the area that might eventually become a donut. If you have the patience, experimenting with various washer thicknesses or gluing washers together should give you the desired results......... I've thought about epoxying the washer to the bottom of the die but haven't tried it yet. If the washer was milled flat like an actions recoil lug this could ( I think ) work very well and eliminate removing & replacing the washer with each press stroke. Just a thought :)

I have LEE collette dies for both my bench rest guns. One a 6BRX and one a 284 WIN. Just go to the LEE web site and click on "custom dies" and you can order a custom collette die/ precision seating die set. You must send a couple fired cases from your gun as well as a bullet you will use and they are still dirt cheap!
Matter of fact, you can order mandrels with different sizes to control bullet insertion force!

$70 for a custom collet and seat die. http://leeprecision.com/collet-necksizing-dies/

Just tripped over this 5 year old thread and just thought Id add that the 6mm Creedmore collet die works just fine without any mods.
