Greetings all,
I've been working up loads for a 22/250 and 223 in 2 different rifles, Rem 700 Varmint and AR). I have worked my way up to the top end of listed loads w/o issues but have noticed that 36 gr of Varget in the 22-250 behind 55 gr Nosler Bal tips shoots fine but the freshly fired case is at room temperature, not at all warm. The AR shooting 25 gr Varget and 69 gr SMK is too hot to pick up. Primers on both look similar, well flattened, but no primer flow around the firing pin. Both guns have heavy 26" barrels, I am inclined to think the hot brass is indicating a hotter load.
The 22-250 is seated 25 thou short of the lands. The 223 is loaded to fit the mag, probably well short of the land also. Any thoughts?? Hank
