COAL difference between 162 amax and 180 hybrid?

Anyone have load data for the *difference* in COAL between the 162 amax and the Berger 180 hybrid when both are seated to the the same relative position in the lands?

Doesn't matter what cartridge/load/rifle, just want to know how much mag length room I'll have to work with if I switch to the 180 hybrids in my 280AI.

Thanks!

Depends which amax you have. I had to change my loads from the only to new length too

I've been wanting to try some but my amax load shoots to good to merit spending all the extra money on the 180s. Now the 195s are out too. You should be able to google search images and find a measurement of the two to compare

Thanks Nate, I'm shooting with the new amax. I've seen the visual comparison before, but looking at the bullet length isn't going to tell me what my finished COAL is going to be once the bullet touches the lands since the angle/ogive could be different between the bullets. I don't want to buy a bunch of the Hybrid's if I'm going to have issues with fitting the rounds into my AICS magazine.

I need to know from someone who has loaded both in their rifle seated out next to the lands what the resulting COAL difference was.

The 180 hybrid is 1.529" so the amax is probably in the 1.532 range. Of course that depends on lot# and tip condition. The 180 will be a few tenth a longer due to the shape of the bullet compared to the amax. It's almost impossible to get your answer from another person due to the throat being different in each rifle. I'm not sure where you buy bullets, but i know cabelas has a rCk by their powder that has sample packs of 3-5 bullets per pack. Or you can try bullets.com for sample packs instead of dropping coin on a whole box to start

I don't know what A-MAX I have, but the difference in 162 A-MAX vs 180 Hybrid in my 284 WIN for 0.020" jump is 0.075 with the Hybrid the longest.

I'm not measuring throat distance, yes that will be different for each rifle. The diameter of the lands/barrel will be relatively constant from gun to gun, so all I'm getting is the difference between ogive/lands contact point to tip between the two bullets. That should let me know whether the 180 hybrid is going to be too long in my mag for my gun, by comparing it to my COAL for the 162.

Awesome, thanks Norm! I'm guessing you have the newer amax, smaller red tip like on far right above?

Anyone else with a measurement that they can confirm?
