CNN's Image Accompanying Article on Gun Control

Anybody tell me what kinda 'firearm' takes cartridges that look like these?

This is the photo CNN's using to highlight an article on reawakening interest in banning hi-cap magazines.

I don't have a military background so I can't say for sure what these came out of, but the rim is suspiciously thin for a hand gun don't you think?

This is really a long shot and I have my doubts about it being the cases look like there was some high pressure and heat, but with that thin rim and the messed up mouths I'm wondering if they were some sort of military type or black powder shotgun round? They do appear to be some sort of brass hull shotgun shells though.

That's what I thought, particularly considering the scale of the debris on the ground undre them all. Coarse wood chips'd look like that.

They are full of sh@* as usual. What does a pile of brass that came out of a 45-70 got to do with gun control.I can see the little old ladies going oh my they need to ban that.Someone needs to call them on their propaganda.

While I agree with the full of comment, this is not a picture of a pile of 45-70 cases. The rims are too thin and not enough taper to the case for a 45-70. Most likely some all brass shotgun cases.

The more I look at the casings and the rim is wrong for 45-70.I think it is a military shell piled up at a shooting range. They manufacture the news dont they.

They manufacture the news dont they.

They certainly do. Rachel Maddow on MSNBC was just saying the other night that those Glock handguns are all plastic and can't be detected by metal detectors and they shoot 'cop killer' bullets. The Lethal Weapon movies strike again . . .

Looks like carbine brass to me......No I take that back......Looks like 45-70 stuff

I didnt realize I could enlarge that photo.
Yeah your right. was looking at it in the small form and looking at the dirt and debri size. Enlarged I can see the Debri is much larger than I first thought.

NOW back to the original.
If you (that are old enough) will remember after Regan and other incidents and all of that hoopla they decided and REPORTED BY THE NEWS that it was AUTOMATIC WEAPONS when in reality the ignorant idiots should have been using the correct term of semi-automatic....
I was rather impressed this time that they used the term SEMI-AUTOMATIC in an exaggerated pronunciation (since they cant hardly get away with trying to suggest that pistols are fully auto) but now its semi-autos with LARGE CAPACITY CLIPS.

Back in the early 80's when I shot competition combat pistol matches the 9mil had such an advantage with paper targets because of lower recoil and larger mag capacity that they began changing the rules to penalize the 9mm.
By forced reloads and extra heavy metal drop plates.

Any way my .02 worth.

They willlllllll always keep trying to take every advantage of every situation to take away our guns and rights.
