I mean no longer going through the state police and just having a central background check authority.

As for medical records, I don't care if they know I have chronic heartburn and bone spurs in my elbow.

For any Firearm Purchase in the USA you do go through a National Background check and have since the late 90's.

Not sure what Virgina does on top of that, like in New York you have to have a Pistol Purchase permit to buy one and in IL you need a FOID Card.

I also watched the entire Senate hearings. The national background check for all gun sales, even private sales is what they are looking at. Basically cutting off the "gun show loop hole." I really think this one piece of legislation has a chance. As far as the assault weapon or high capacity magazine ban, it seems there isn't enough support at this time to move forward in the Senate. I am confident such a bill would never pass the House of Representatives. Ray

Piers cant help it, he's a dic&-head at heart! I live in MD, and its not a firearm friendly state. I also have a lot of friends in law enforcement, you'd be surprised how many of them like to see the good guys armed. So it doesn't surprise me to hear Mr. Clarke support gun ownership, good for him!

Search YouTube for peirs Morgan vs Alex Jones if you want to see Morgan frazzled! Another good one is Morgan vs Jesse Ventura.

They are trying to follow what my great State of New York did, but you're right the AW Ban I think is going to die at the Federal level but the "Universal Background" NICS will make it through I'm affraid. We are still free to trade for now in State, ours goes into effect this March 15, 2013 and the Background Check for ammo goes into effect Jan. 15, 2014.

I believe you're right Mike. We have some really stupid laws here in Ca. also, but have our backs against a wall due to the number who vote against us. I believe we'll see many more states enacting tougher laws. The part that hurts us is the portion held by the entire SCOTUS: "the states retain the right to reasonable legislation".

We better fight this universal background check thing. It's not as innocent as it sounds. The only way they can enforce it for transactions between individuals is national registration of all firearms -- which is what the gunbanners have always wanted. This will certainly be included (or allowed by "rule making") in any universal background check on individual sales. They need this before they can take the next step of banning certain or all firearms -- ask California gun owners. Currently Federal law (1968 Gun Contral Act) prohibits the federal government from registering your firearms. Many people think they already do because of the form 4473 they fill out. But only the TYPE of firearm of transmitted to the FBI on a background check and the 4473 remains at the dealer. It can only be examined if there is a specific criminal investigation of that person or that firearm, which rarely happens.

And it looks like the bill Feinstein wants is the same thing she tried before? Big long list covering just about everything that shoots. ::) Won't be too long and slingshots and pea shooters will be banned.
Some of the "smarter" folks saw it didn't do squat so she might have a hard time getting it passed. Keep your fingers crossed.
An M1A and a bayonet lug made it bad? Just how stupid is that?
If the powers that be do a lot of homework, just maybe, something good might come out of it.
Still doesn't address the "Fruit Loops" that caused the original problems. It will never be an easy fix and NO, I don't have the answers. ;)

Not that I would want it to happen, quite the opposite actually, but, is a national registration any different than we have with other things right now? Isn't your car, truck, motorcycle, etc, etc. registered? Do you realize how simple it is for someone to run your license plate number and find out who owns the vehicle and where that person lives? How about your drivers license? I could go on and on, but think the picture is pretty clear. I do NOT want to see a national registration, so, no bashing please. Just trying to make a clear point about registration.

No simple solution for sure. I DO know one thing for a fact!
California and it's "limp wrist" liberal government needs an enema!
You can't do anything. It would be against they're constitional rights. ::)
Happiness is seeing California in your rear view mirror. ;)

My favorite part is Morgan calling the sheriff with the Hollywood Voice, and this from some one that sounds like a late nite infomercial for Household cleaners. What a dispicable excuse for a man, that he has to belittle someones voice and the manner in which they speak.

Every country that has banned firearms, ALL started with registration. Every single law that restricts firearms in any way, is a step closer to an outright ban. Banning all guns won't do anything. If someone wants to go kill a bunch of people, they will get a gun. We need more guns in the hands of the right people. Right around the time of the Sandy Hook shooting, there was a mass killing in Japan, the guy used a knife! The liberal media refused to cover this story. Why? because it proves that eliminating a weapon does nothing. What a joke. Urbanization literally ruined this once great nation.
The knife attack actually took place in China. None of the 22 children died, and it was covered by the media world wide. There was a mass stabbing in Japan in 2001 however. 8 children died. The killer was sentenced to death and hanged in 2004.

Not to disrespect anyone I think it is important make sure our facts are correct when presenting a statement as fact. The killings that JRS was referring to is the Osaka school massacre. I was able to obtain this information by googling "Japanese killings with a knife". Misinformation only contributes to the hysteria which is at least partially responsible for causing a shortage of shooting supplies. Ray
