CMP Eley ammo

I purchased two cases of the CMP Eley Standard ammo. ($352.00 shipped each) I and three of my fellow smallbore prone shooters have been trying it. Lets start out with the test people. Three active NRA Smallbore prone masters, one Expert about to be reclassified master.
The ammo when weighed, varies between 51.6 grains to 53.1 grains (over 200 weighed) with the majority running 52.3 ~ 52.8. At the range, it shoots quite well with occasional flyers, left, right & low. No misfires thus far with over 1000 fired. As practice ammo for serious prone shooters it is excellent and very reasonably priced. When segregated by weight + / - 0.2 grains it will hold the X ring at 50 meters almost all the time but it will yield an occasional 9. When not segregated by weight, it will hold the 10 ring with occasional loose 9. Overall, It is very worthwhile ammo when used as practice.

Thanks for the real world info, looks like I will give it a try.

For me, i do separate by rim thickness first.. then by weight.

I shot a bunch of it and it shot accurately but the only issue I had was I would have heavier bolt drops when chambering with it. I don't get it with any other ammo I have tried. I got an occasional flyer too but not bad. I would use it for matches if it fed reliably in my rifle but will use it in my other .22.

I wish I could buy a couple cases, but no affiliated clubs around here anymore. I have a Vudoo V22 on the way that would love it

Don;t buy a couple cases without trying it first. I had my issues shooting it in my Vudoo. Only ammo that gave me issues from almost a dozen I tried.

Yeah I want to try it first too, I have been told by some others that it was really tight chambering in the reamers that Vudoo uses.

That the funny part is all the other Eley ammo I have tried works perfectly. Just this stuff. If you were closer I would give you some to try.

I ran basically the same exact test. Weight checked about 300 rounds. My spread was practically identical to yours. I did pull the bullet from the heaviest and the lightest. Almost 2 grains difference in the lead. But also a 1/2 grain difference in the case of the heavier bullet. I rim thickness checked about 20 of them of and found them to be very consistent for the most part. 52.7 grains was by far the most populace weight so I took about 50 of the to the range. I was shooting off the bench at 50 yards. My results were the same with that sorted batch of bullets. They would hold the x ring on the A23 target at 50 yards. They would also hold the 10 ring at 100 yards but not the X ring. The wind conditions were very favorable to shooting a good result. I might also add I was able to shoot a 100 indoor at 50' on the A50 target. I agree with the OP in that it is very worthwhile ammo for practice and for new shooters learning the basics. Especially indoors.

I bought a case to shoot in my Savage Mark II I use for NRL22. I also get the occasional flyers with it but for the money it's very good practice ammo. I've run one match with it but will likely resign it to practice only and run either Eley Yellow box or SK plus for competition.

Bought a case and split with fellow shooter. White box 500 bulk pac. Was hopeing to shoot in Vintage Benchrest . Not accurate enough at all for that. Very dissapointed.

It's logical that the lead will be the item changing the weight the most. By far the most dense and if the propellant were changing +/- 1 full grain, the results would be - - - interesting?
did my regular practice Tuesday with predictable results. Used the stuff averaging 51.8 gr +/- 0,1 gr. Shot 50 meter groups of around 1/2". 60 rds including foulers and sighters. Only got one sloppy 9 (199 13x)
Again, at $35.00 / 500, darn good PRACTICE ammo. But ya gotta segregate by weight.

For pistol use, it works great for my S&W M41 which is usually finicky with ammo, but doesn't work in my High Standard Victor which usually has no problem with most ammo
