CMP did it new F class category

After taking a break, and then re-reading the CMP rules, I'm concerned about the ""current" MSRP" point.

A new Ruger RPR can reliably be found for $660 less than the MSRP, and an el cheapo Vortex can reliably be found for $268 less than MSRP. Those and an Atlas bipod are near the MSRP limit.

The good news is you save $928 off of the MSRP. The bad news is, with a sneeze and an update of the Manufacturer's website on their whim, and your gear may no longer be legal per the ""current" MSRP" math.

Ah, well.

Just let me put a folding bipod on my sling rifle and call it a day.

I like the idea of bringing a new class of shooting to F Class. My last F Open rifle cost well north over 8k and I’m a weekend fair weather shooter. Many of the big boys have two or three rifles..
When I’m at the range and introduce competitive shooting to a new shooter. They shake their head and say, that’s too expensive. I’m all for an Open class, but like NHRA drag racing not everyone can run a top fueler but bracket racing or super street is more obtainable. F-Mil or whatever they want to call it is a great idea.

Belly benchrest is an expensive game!

Or, they can call it F-TR.

Same for up here, initially we had some takers but once they started shooting the 1k yd target they realized their rifles were not as accurate as they thought they were. Saw a lot 170’s score occasional 180’s. While our dedicated F/O shooters were shooting the normal mid to high 190’s. Nothing more humbling when you realize your rifle is not what you thought it was. Our 600yd matches we get some of the prs guys but nothing to get excited about. When I talk to the PRS/NRL folks about shooting with us I get the ol it’s boring what you guys do. I been to an NRL hunter match where I had to wait over an hour to shoot 8rds lol. I guess their and my idea of boring is completely different.
We see alot of this, bought a creedmoor can hit something at 300-400 come to a 6 or 1k match and leave never to come back. Some fall in love with it and shoot what they brung till they can afford better most don't, I don't know if it's the reality of true long range shooting or it's the match format.

I've seen several comments here about people saying they should allow Muzzle Brakes and I have to ask , "WHY" ?
Have you folks who are promoting "Brakes" ever laid on the Line , and "TRIED" to compete with a Muzzle Brake gun two or three feet away from you ? I get the impression you haven't , or you wouldn't be suggesting this .
Personally ; I won't shoot any Match , or even a Practice where Brakes aren't completely separated from the other Competitors . Why would I want to subject myself to that type of abuse ?

Because some of us recognize that in order for our chosen sport to survive, we need to be a whole lot more welcoming to people who don't have bespoke gear for a specific game. I want more shooters on the line, and (I think) one of the best ways to do that is to adopt an attitude of "We will find a way for you to shoot what the gear you have, just bring enough ammo!" For a long time I shared a practice line with the USCG West Coast Interdiction team and their M82A1's. We found a way to make it work then, and we can find a way to make it work with fellow competitors who bring a braked rifle with them.

This strikes me as the same sort of attitude that some folks had toward Alan Barnhart's new F-TR Palma record. There were a whole bunch of complaints that "Well it's not really Palma, how dare you call it Palma??" Sports change over time. Equipment evolves. The same word(s) carry new meanings, and don't always fit the specific definitions they used to. We can either work with those changes or lose our range time to larger, better attended groups.

This isn't about being "INCLUSIVE" . It's about getting the muzzle blast of another high powered rifle in my face , and the potential damage to my hearing from the "deflected" percussion . I spent two years in Vietnam , with all sorts of stuff going on around , and next to me so it's based on more than a "feel good" attitude on my part .
I'm just as entitled to my opinion on this , and don't need to have someone play that card , for whatever their reason !
So how often do you shoot with a muzzle Brake gun next to you on the Line . Kind of avoided that question in that pious response !

F Class doesn't have rapid fire or the need to see hits. I hope the new classes don't allow them. Personally I hate them on the line but accept that to get new shooters out we need to be inclusive. We always let new shooters with brakes shoot. We put them down at the end and ask that they put shooting bags and gear between the other shooters. If you're serious enough to keep coming out then take the brake off..

I answered the question you asked, which was "Why should we allow muzzle brakes?" You're correct that you are entitled to your opinion -- I never said you weren't. But I'm also entitled to my opinion, so maybe don't ask a question that you might not like the answer to.

You didn't ask that question until just now. But to answer it now that you've asked: almost every practice session and the most recent club match.

Exactly!

We allow them as club rifles and put them on the end of the line. They are very understanding and help mitigate muzzle blast and will put a hard gun case up to help with the muzzle blast as well. So far no complaints everyone is happy.
