Clicking sound from Reloading Press?

Leaddog

F-Class T/R
Just curious. I use a Rockchucker and Redding S Full Length Sizing (bushing) Dies. When resizing some of my Lapua brass, I get a very distinctive 'click' when FL resizing. What is that? Doesn't seem to matter as the brass is resized perfectly, just wondering what causes the click.

Could be your spent primer hitting the press frame when it's being expelled from the primer pocket.....

There is no primer in the case when I resize. The sound is definitely the press.

Perhaps it is the neck bushing hitting its retainer cap as the case comes up. There is vertical and horizontal clearance around the bushing to allow it to float.

Have you checked the press for loose parts? Anything that could be shifting under load?

One way to isolate is to have someone operate the press and with a piece of tubing, one end held to your ear, the other next to a suspected source of the noise, listen. When you have a nice loud "click" in your ear, the source is right under the end of the tube.

Car mechanics have found this to be a great use for vacuum hose.
