Squeaking when resizing brass

Willson dies. But I would change lubs before I spent money on custom dies. Just my Two cents. Tommy Mc
The interesting part of the equation is that Wilson doesn’t charge for the honing service other than shipping, so from Brunos I spend $60 on the die then if needed I’ll send it to Wilson

Mark a case with a sharpie and see where most of the
resistance is. You may be able to just polish that area.
And like mentioned above, I had Imperial fail me in the
past for general sizing, but use it mainly after the die
and chamber are sized better to match.

When I get that it is w/expander ball. I use a dry powder lube that is in with birdshot in a little plastic tub I got it a long time ago, I think the company was Necco or something close to that

Lack of lube?
Lack of lube might not be the problem. I shoot 2 6 BRXs. One lot of cases in the one gun using custom full length bushing dies squeeked regardless of how I tried to lube them. Of course excessive lube is as bad as not enough. I anneal every firing. After about 10 loading cycles it stopped. No clue why.

Let me translate: SHAME! SHAME!

You aren't using enough lube, either outside, or in the neck.

A resizing die not polished properly at the factory can cause the same problem.

Brass cleaned in a vibratory tumbler with treated walnut media can cause this problem if not wiped off the case. The polishing compound can become embedded inside the die increasing friction.

Dirty brass can cause the problem from oxidation to carbon on the outside of the case.

Below for bozo699 :D(he lubes his cases to fire form them)

Question, what is the definition of a party pooper.

Answer, someone who puts sand in the vaseline.

I had this issue but it wasn't the die that needed lube it was the press

I was hesitant to make the same observation. Every time pulled the handle on the ram, there was a squeak. I lubed the pivots and it should be good for another seven years. I hope I am.

Are you putting any lube on the outside of the neck? I use the wax and all I do is put some on my hands like hand lotion but extremely light coating the squeaking will stop. I even use rcbs lube and do the same just the slightest amount on the outside of the neck.

My first thought was maybe you are like me, my knees squeak/make noise when I do much any more , but also I use a Q-tip lightly lubed and lube the inside of the case neck, I don't seem to have any noise when I do that ,also makes sizing easier , or at least seems so to me.

Every time I start with a brand new set of the accepted industry top of the line brand dies so well know on this board I get squeaks. I clean the new dies, use a little extra wax on the clean cases and for maybe of the first 20-30 cases being FL sized I get squeaks. The handle requires more force to push the case in and out also. After the first 20-30 cases the squeaks are gone and the force is much less on the press handle. Always gives me the shivers worrying about sticking a case. Oh, and the is no expander inside the neck either. The only thing I can figure is the finish in the new dies needs to be burnished a bit.

Now if this was a die with 100 cycles on it, plenty of wax (or lube) on the case and it was still squeaky I'd be very concerned about sticking a case. Even if you get it out easy then your screwed up on the box count because you ruined a cases. Haven't lost one for a while but have you ever wished they packaged about 105 pieces instead of 100? I always use old brass to set up dies these days. Figure about a buck if I mess one up and then your round count in the box is off which seems to drive me wild in my old age when I screw up.

I always clean my new dies with some kind of solvent too. I regularly clean my dies too. I've never had any issue with my .308 die.

This 6.5x47 has hundreds of sizings on it

I'm using plenty of imperial die sizing wax

I'm not using an expander ball

I'm pretty confident SPJ has me on the right track with my die sizing too much (.005) I'll know once I try another die. I'm looking at buying a Short Action Custom Precision die.

Oil ram.

Die not square to the shell holder. Lock die down when in contact with the shell holder.

To control bump & still make contact, get Redding Comp Shell holder set.

Mine was a decapping pin just a bit too large in diameter for the flash holes. A little spin on some emery paper solved it.
