Cleaning rod

I use a pair of 44" Ivy rods with the optional 1" handles. One has the optional
integral jag, the other is threaded. I am well pleased and use them with one of
T.K. Nolan's Barrel Saver Rod Guides. I provided T.K. with the O.D. of my
Ivy rod's ground & polished diameter and my action spec's to ensure a good fit.

The system makes my cleaning regimen easy, safe and effective..

Just got my new Dewy rod in the mail today for my .223. My other one that I bought for a 7mm Mag I had a while back did an excellent job for years. Figure no reason to try anything else since the first one worked so well.

I have several Dewey coated rods which I have never had a problem with except teaching my son to to remove copper from a barrel he has a cheap aluminum multiple gun/caliber bore guide which has interchangeable tips both ends... he left the tip off the the entrance end which carved up my rod I have used for 7 years or so !!! Of course that was user error I have never had a problem with Dewey rods. I have a Tipton stainless polished (not coated) grey handle which is a very nice rod as well, but being 30 cal (270-35 cal I think) it gets very little use. I have a pro shot .17 cal rod ( I no longer have a .17 cal) that worked great on17 hmr, and still working great on 22 rimfires. The Dewey is to tight for 22 rimfires in my opinion which is not a Dewey problem, from reading the 20 cal rod is perfect for 22 rimfire... I have not purchased a rod in 7 years or more so I missed the 20 cal buyers club. I plan to buy a Dewey 20 cal rod for use on 22 rimfire from the rods I have I like the Dewey better, but price/if another brand that is well built is on sale I will probably succumb the the power of "on sale".

We are lucky to be able to nit pick these fine cleaning rods, as I said all of the one piece rods I have are of outstanding build, and make cleaning so much easier.

I prefer Boretech and Tipton over Dewey. The problem I have with the Dewey rods I have is because the handle bearings don't work as well as they should the cleaning jag is continually coming loose, unless you tighten it with a pair of pliers. I don't have that problem with either the Boretech of the Tipton rods. My Dewey rods are 4 or 5 years old, like Boyd said earlier, if someone has a newer Dewey rod it would be nice to know if that problem has been resolved.

I like the Proshot they have a nice polish on them, and the handle spins quite nicely to match barrel twist and keep my tips tight

Maybe the Dewey's have changed but I have two of them that will only spin the jag off the end of the rod. Nice coating though. Fool me once, fool me twice...whatever I won't be fooled again. ;)

I use Bore tec, Dewey, and Pro shot

Be aware that the coefficient of friction is greater with plastic on steel vs steel on steel, use a Neil Jones rod guide or Lucas or lap the throat slick.

I have several Dewey coated rods and a Tipton carbon fiber rod. I prefer the Tipton. Stiffer, better bearings and more comfortable handle.

With any good cleaning rod, it is also important to use a good quality bore guide. I use a Bore-Tech patch guide for most of my bolt actions, a Neil Jones custom bore guide fit to my NULA, and a Wheeler bore guide for my AR's. for my Rem597 that must be cleaned from the muzzle :'( I used a delrin muzzle bore guide. From Brownell's IIRC.

Nylon coated brass/steel rod with a ball bearing handle is a quality setup that will help clean your rifle or pistol and not damage anything in the process. J. Dewey Mfg, Tipton and Pro-Shot make some of the best quality cleaning rods.

I bought a pair of Bore Tech rods shortly after they came out. Very nice handles and bearings. The coating on the rod sucks big time. It started pealing off within a couple months. I called and talked with them, and they basically said sorry! They would not replace them, or a credit or anything. I have had a pair of Deweys for 20 years and the coating is still intact, and couldn't venture a guess how many trips they have made down and back barrels. I replaced the handles last year, they sold me them for something like 12 bucks each? Don't recall exactly. I also have Pro Shot stainless, and I would rate them every goos as the Dewey.

Bore Tech sucks. I can't believe any maker that would not stand behind their products are still in business.
