Cleaning problems, advice please.

Having some problems getting my cooper clean,at least i think I am) I use a combo of nylon brushes, patches and butches bore shine. I start out with a soaked patch, then 5 strokes with a soaked nylon brush, 5 wet patches then a loose patch soaked in butches which I leave for about 15 minutes. Then another 5 wet brush strokes and wet patches till they come out clean and then I dry patch it until the bore is well dryed out, at this stage the patches are clean and the bore is nice and dry so I finish off with an oil soaked patch most times this oil soaked patch comes out with black fouling on it, even though the patches with butches where coming out clean, if I put another oily patch through after the first oily patch it has no dirt on it, where the hell is that first oily patch getting the dirt from? This happened a few times and after it did last night I repeated the whole process again but wasnt getting any dirt on the patches soaked in butches, none that I could see anyways).

CRIAGYBOY;you dont say if your cleaning out the powder/carbon fouling first as far as i know from my own cleaning regime products for copper fouling dont remove carbon.i use kg1 cut with kroil this does it for me.no doubt the more experienced out there will offer advice .

If you want to see just how "clean" your rifle is, get some Wipe-out and let it sit in your bore overnight. If if comes out with color, you have either copper, carbon or powder fouling left in the barrel.

I clean my barrels down to cut carbon then copper. Then I let Wipe-out finish it off. Then it is clean.

I know of only one other product that I have used that when I folled it with Wipe-out did I remove nothing else. That product was Blue Armadillo or something like that. Its quicker than Wipe-out, 15 mins vs. overnight, but Wipe-out is like a Ronco product . . . just set it and forget it!

Craigyboy,
After your cleaning try flushing with a couple of wet patches of Shellite, cheap from your hardwear store That will flush the residue of solvents out of the pores of the steel in the barrel then oil. Or like someone else suggested use Wipe-Out.

AUSSIEBOB.whats the equivalant of shellite here in the u.k;would it be some form of acetone;never used wipeout either is it good?.

I'v been running some test on copper remover, this is just for removing copper . I'v tested four differant cleaners, Sweets, 50BMG, Shooters Choice, Buches bore shine, and have listed them in order.
You can do your own tests, I used four pennies, Sweets removed the copper from a penny in 8 days, 50BMG just started to show some around the edges after 12 days, and the other two didn't show any places where copper was starting to be removed. But showed lot of green on the paper towel. I cleaned the pennies every day and put fresh remover on each penny every day.
This is all I have tested so far,but plan on testing all the others .
I have heard a lot of people complain about the smell of Sweets, well don't get you nose close to the 50BMG it will knock your head off.
You don't have to take my word on copper remover do the test your self.
