As every one probably knows, cleaning a center fire rifle shooting jacketed bullets requires removing the carbon and copper fouling. For many years I've used Shooter Choice as a one solvent solution which seemed to work well enough. However because of the odor and the wife's recent sensitivity to it I'm trying to switch to something that doesn't give off such a strong odor.
I've been experimentingl with using old Hoppe's No. 9 with a brass brush to remove carbon fouling, dry patching then using Bore Tech's Cu+2 to remove copper fouling. I know they make a product that does both but you can't use a brass brush with it. Maybe I'm wrong but I 've always believe the mechanical action of the brass brush is essential to assure removal of carbon fouling.
Anyway my new method seems to be working, the smell is gone and I haven't detected any decline in accuracy. However I don't have a bore scope. I realize that there are many different ways to "skin the cat" of cleaning a rifle but I welcome any comments or suggestion on my new approach to cleaning. Thanks.
