Cleaning brush question

Not according to my two bore scopes!!!! TONS of carbon left in the barrel from soaking, and used accelerator, and tactical advantage!
Working a helluva lot better n what I was doing.
What are you using after wipe out if your even using it anymore

I use good bronze bristle brushes with the Wipe out products, the brush does the work on carbon, but the Wipe out does a good job on Copper.

I have seen bores that are black from one end to the other with carbon where guys were soaking. These friends had to work their butt off with JB and good brushes to get the carbon out.

That darn cheap Lyman bore scope is a shooter's best friend, and they are about $155-175 shipped from Brownell's at this time, and they are a soaker's worst night mare.

If it's a .20 Dewey's rod , they suggest useing pistol brushes instead of the longer rifle brushes.... To keep from damaging the rod...

I have two of the standard .22 coated rods that measure about .210 with 8-32 threads. One rod was given to me bent but I mostly straightened it. It gets used on my old Swede Mauser 6.5 x 55

I am wondering if brass core run out is causing short stiffer bristles on one side..........

Get some of those “top shelf” bronze brushes, some butchs, and pro shot patches. Get a good quality pierce jag in a smaller caliber than youre cleaning (22 in a 6mm) Then grab some flitz, iosso, red and blue jb and ill teach you how to clean any “top shelf” barrel in less than 10mins. You have to stick with the top shelf theme and throw all those other snake oil cleaning supplies in the trash.

:D.....not me, man. I shoot almost every day. Shot 60 rounds of 7-08 today warming up for HP silhouette Nationals 19, 20, 21 this coming week. The thunder shower turned heavy rain cut my range visit short. Be back tomorrow to finish the 100 ct. box.

I shot smallbore silhouette yesterday. One of my favorite games. Never got a 10 pin yet but got a box full of 5 pins.

The rod measures .200" over the nylon coating or maybe its plastic?? Measured .181" on the steel where some coating is missing .

And its not a Dewy. Bought around 1980? When i got the Rem 40X.

Still have the brush problem that just started 2 or 3 years ago.

Almost stuck in the 243 Win. Parker Hale LTD England.JPG DeweyParkerHaleStyleRifleCleaningJAG.JPG IMG_3873A.JPG

If they can be found.
Some over size 22 brushes work.
Isn't he asking about .22 brushes..? You can get .22 pistol brushes at academy normally.... Dewey's wants them used on the ., .20 rods for less resistance I would imagine since their actual .22 rods have problems in .22 bores... If useing a standard .22 rod there's no need for the pistol brushes..

The day may come when you almost stick one. Once its started, you cant get it back out. Has to be pushed all the way to the muzzle.

I am tallking about 6mm/243 bronze brushes. OP 22.

Thank you for the usefull help.

If it ever gets to the point where I feel the need to measure the OD of a cleaning brush, I hope someone steps in and whacks me upside the head. :D

I wonder how the bore brush factory Quality Control technician measures the brush diameters.

I had been using Brownells proprietary brushes in .30 to clean 7.62mm machine gun barrels, because they get really, really cruddy. I bought some of their .22 brushes to clean 5.56mm barrels, and at least the 2 packages that I received were too small. I measured them, and figured they were really .20 brushes. Their brushes work really well - when they're the right size.
