Cleaning Bronz Brushes

I swirl them around vigorously in hot soapy water (Dawn dish soap).

Same here. Works great, cost very little. No high vapor pressure solvents to deal with, dispose of, or pollute the environment with. I use a smaller salsa glass jar with a metal lid with the seal still intact.

I always like to have a few worn and undersize brushes in various calibers around.
Comes in handy when I need to wrap a patch around them and use JB or Iosso with oil
to quickly remove stubborn fouling.

Be very very careful doing that.

A friend butchered a Bartlein with a lot of life left in it from cleaning that way. I searched for shots of the longitudinal scores in his barrel that he posted, but I can't find them. Despite what JB might have said 30 or 40 years ago, you are likely to damage barrels by using abrasive cleaners on patches over bronze brushes.

In my friend's case, Bartlein replaced his barrel for him because they're nice guys & lectured us severely here in Australia about the risk of the procedure.

Interesting. I don't make a habit of doing it. But I gotta believe a lot of people have used this method without incurring severe damage?
