Chrome lining a barrel

Grimstod

Machinist, Designer, and Shooter.
Is it posable to Chrome line a barrel after it has been alreaddy has been rifled and chamber cut.

Maybe chrome plating is the term I am suppose to be using.

Why would you want to chrome it? It will change the potetial accuracy and I believe they cut them to a special spec on the grooves and lands because it actually builds up to a measured thickness. What kind of gun is it.

I have several mosins. Their barrels are rather oversized. Like 314 to 313cal instead of the 310 that they are suppose to be. I like to plink with surplus but it is corrosive and you have to clean cause you REALLY have to CLEAN after you shoot the crap. If I could chrome line it, it would preserve the bore right? I cherish these old junkers and like to shoot them but don't want to ruin them with corrosive ammo either if I can avoid it. I know every one says if you clean after shooting you will be fine but once in a while you forget or you don't get all of it. Then next time I am at the range rust in the barrel and this upsets me. :-[

chrome plating the barrels of your mosin's would cost more than the rifles are worth.

Agreed; just clean them with hot water, followed by your normal cleaning regimen. It's not difficult or complicated.

Yes, it is possible. Just as 40x said, it will cost more than the gun is worth. Another consideration is the size of the chamber. Chrome plating may make it too small. Now you're looking at the cost of a carbide reamer to clean out the chrome.
All that being said, it is your gun and you're money to do what you wish with.

I feel your pain, drawbacks of corrosive ammo. I have a couple that are great shooters but don't want the hassle of corrosion. I shoot my Finn M28-30 once a year at a local Turkey Shoot for fun and clean it for days to get it real clean. I have been using a bore foam after the initial cleaning works to let it sit overnight and patch it out, does real good after a few days and not time consuming or rough on the old rifling. I bought dies to load with but haven't yet, brass is pricey.

Reload, Buy some boxer primed brass (Norma ) and no more worries about corrosive ammo. In the long run it will not only be cheaper to shoot ,but you can tune them for better accuracy as well.
