Chop Saw Barrel Shooting

…scared. No idea who Bard of Avon is.

Op already said barrel is 16 inches in length and overall length of 28 inches. He’s fine. What the OP did is a cool idea.

sorry op…this is the last post from me.

Confusion Reigns. I was told recently by an officer of the law that only congress can
make laws and what the ATF does is not law, but rules, and you know what rules were made for. ;) o_O

Administrative rules were designed to further enrich defense attorneys. Don't play unless you can pay.

Pays to have a friend that is a gunsmith. Dropped the barrel off Monday morning and got it back this morning. Looks a lot better with the polished barrel and the brake on. Suppose to rain and snow the next three days. Should be more fun to shoot without the scope hitting my shooting glasses.

How’s the recoil with that grip, before brake? It was manageable?
It was manageable. It would have been fine with the bi-pod. Going to be just fine with the big brake. I have really just started recontouring the grip. Right now that is a plow handle grip. Like a single action revolver. I want it more like a double action.

I watched one of the guys shooting a Savage with a home made stock that looked like yours at the MOA match in Sundance WY. He shot a lot of firsts in the heavy class at 750 and 1k. The thing I remember the most is he had horrible clickers. He would open the bolt , hit the click and them had a small rubber mallet he used to bump the click to fully open the bolt.

Recoil with that Holland brake will be just about non existent

Yeah I was asking because it would look like it would roll on you. Good idea reshaping a little. I hope you do well shooting it. Looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Just got back from shooting my chop saw barrel/stock short rifle. I am ecstatic to say the least. Sometimes you fall into a pile of crap and come up smelling like a rose. :) Sure was the case this time. I shot the groups on the attached target non stop. The bullet holes are faint because I turned the target over, pushed the petals down and Scotch taped them down. Makes getting a better measurement. The first group was my favorite rifle load. Have no idea what the jump is on this barrel. The second group is one of those WTF happen there groups. +.2 grains more Varget and all was well.

The ironic part of this whole project is I thought the Savage barrel I took off of one of my Model 12 BRs was toast. It would foul after 15 or so rounds and open the groups up. The last two groups were shot with 50+ down the bore. Go figure. My set up was poor today also. The bag rider is nor parallel to the bore, the center of the targets was a lot bigger than the dot in the scope and grip is resting on the top of a BR bag. Looking for better results down the road.

I've said it before: Those Speer TNTs are a "best buy" in varmint bullets. I shoot them in 223, 6mm Rem, 250 A.I., and 270 Win, all surprisingly accurate out of factory barrels.

Those groups have to have you smiling. Keep us posted on your shooting with this one. Specialty pistols are very rewarding.

I am. I can get out to 300 at my range without getting in the mud. 6" of snow would be better. That will cover the mud all the way to 1K.

Just saw this . I'm not sure what the Savage Marketing people were thinking on this one. Its sure looks like the Remingtons they had when they folded up. Sure makes me wonder if the people running the companies today understand what the customer actually wants.

Absolutely needs a bigger magazine. (Sarcasm) They definitely didn't consult any serious longrange competitor about what is used for lonrange matches. 500 yards? We're playing with 22 rimfires that far. At least they tried.

I like that and have a couple of new unused target actions . Maybe a similar build for me with a different stock . Oh , and a set of double set triggers I make .
