Choice of Cleaning Rods for .20 Cal.

I plan on receiving a new Cooper .20 VarTarg in early 2007 and am putting together some accessories for the rifle. I notice that the current Sinclair catalog lists Dewey rods for the .20 bore, but that instead of the usual coated rod, they recommend a Stainless Steel one because "these small diameter barrels do not provide enough room for both the rod and the proper amount of coating that will hold up. Thereforfe, on these calibers, we prefer to use stainless steel rods." I can see their point, but why not consider the alternative of carbon fiber rods made by Tipton? Any opinions, advice, comments?

I purchaced a .20 Dewey SS rod from Sinclair and also a coated .20 cal Dewey rod from a local dealer. I have had no trouble with the coated rod and have never used the SS from Sinclair. After a year the coating is fine.I use a Lucas quide and try to be careful of the coating as I assume it is thin.

I too have a coated Dewey rod for my twenties, actually it may be a .17 caliber rod. Regardless, no problems with coating.

Whatever you do, do not buy the Tipton rod for the twenty caliber it is to weak and it will break in no time at all, been there done that !! Go with the Dewey or Bore Tech, both of them are great . :wave:
