Chlorinated brake clean causes microscopic cracks???????

That article says the stainless steel needs to have tensile stress to cause the cracks. Do firing pins have tensile stress?

Anyone remember grinding break shoes to fit the drums after the drums had been turned..??
I referred to it as arcing the shoes to the drums. I’ll guess and say that practice ended 50 years ago. Of course disc brakes helped the demise but all wheel discs didn’t become popular until later.

At least 50 years ago.

We are a bunch of people that really do look for solutions to problems that don't matter or don't exist, aren't we? Krieger says don't shoot their stainless bbls below 0° too...or was it 20° above. IDR. Anything's possible I guess.
That isn't exactly what they say. They say stainless becomes weaker in cold temps. Because of that, the minimum diameter for SS is larger than for CM. Bartlein and Brux also require larger contours.

My SS barrels are ruined before the Gunsmith gets them. I write on them with a Sharpie.

Using coordinated solvents were used in brake cleaners, rapid tap..the old good smelling stuff...I have one can left, they were/ are non flammable and cut oil off brake parts. In today's world, any brake lining with more than 10percent contamination should be law be replaced.ive never seen a brake drum for a class 7-8 truck turned, they wear out fast enough and so does lining. The big warning I've seen on cans, coordinated or non, is using on aluminum.
All rats were exposed to massive amounts in these tests.

I remember our Featherlite Modified had drum brakes in 1979, then we saw Geoff Bodine had disk brakes, man he could take that car deeper in the turns at Martinsville than anyone else.
we learned fast that weekend.
When I quit racing we had 5,000 dollar a caliper brakes with 1200 pads. and traction control, lol!!!

I got my yearly water treatment report from the city with my bill today. I usually just trash it but I thought I would look to see how much chlorine they measured. I would not worry about .19 ppm.
