They use the SPECIAL Sharpie markers to mark where the bolts "should have been" on the doors that fall off.In the aerospace industry there are special Sharpie markers required by Boeing, Lockheed, etc for titanium part marking. Regular Sharpie = no bueno.
That article says the stainless steel needs to have tensile stress to cause the cracks. Do firing pins have tensile stress?Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking - SSINA
The combination of tensile stress and a specific corrosive environment can crack stainless steels. This mode of attack is termed stress corrosion cracking (SCC). The most common environmental exposure condition responsible for SCC of stainless steels is the presence of chlorides. Although no...www.ssina.com
I don't know about stress induced cracks, but have observed stainless degradation just due to exposure. That article says the stainless steel needs to have tensile stress to cause the cracks. Do firing pins have tensile stress?
I referred to it as arcing the shoes to the drums. I’ll guess and say that practice ended 50 years ago. Of course disc brakes helped the demise but all wheel discs didn’t become popular until later.Anyone remember grinding break shoes to fit the drums after the drums had been turned..??
There are more types of stainless steel and ways of treating them than I can count.I don't know about stress induced cracks, but have observed stainless degradation just due to exposure.
Is that above or below the equator? We are a bunch of people that really do look for solutions to problems that don't matter or don't exist, aren't we? Krieger says don't shoot their stainless bbls below 0° too...or was it 20° above. IDR. Anything's possible I guess.

That isn't exactly what they say. They say stainless becomes weaker in cold temps. Because of that, the minimum diameter for SS is larger than for CM. Bartlein and Brux also require larger contours. We are a bunch of people that really do look for solutions to problems that don't matter or don't exist, aren't we? I remember our Featherlite Modified had drum brakes in 1979, then we saw Geoff Bodine had disk brakes, man he could take that car deeper in the turns at Martinsville than anyone else.I referred to it as arcing the shoes to the drums. I was doing brake and front end alignments' back in the late 60s. I attended a short school on the new Fords that came out with disc front and drum rears. At least 50 years ago.![]()
