Was cleaning my 22-250-R700V with factory 26” Rem varmint taper barrel and I kept feeling the cleaning rod hit a spot down the bore a ways. Marked cleaning rod and stuck borescope in there. Low and behold, look at this. Looks like something Preacher would be working on. Of coarse I had just loaded 25 rounds up. Would have went and shot them to see what would happen today but it’s raining here. I shot a few rounds through it the other day so I know it won’t blow up but I don’t think it will worth doing much with. 'Doesn’t seem this has been in there that long. Was a great shooting factory barrel. I did measure and think I can cut this off and have a 16” barreled model. o_O:eek:o_O Just kidding of coarse.

It doesn't look NEW to me. In the second pic it looks like the land was cut inline with the defect. It may have been there all along, just got worse because of the copper fouling. Clean the fouling and shoot it. It may not have changed the overall characteristics of the barrel.

Just keep cleaning, itll impress you what it will shoot like . I use Gunslick foaming bore cleaner . Itll take a few to remove that much . I foam it up, stand it in the corner , muzzle down on a white rag . Let it sit overnight. Run a few patches in the morning , no oil ! Then hit it again . Ive seen worse , the copper was being torn off probably by an imperfection, but you wont know how bad it is till its clean .

it didnt have this spot i could feel before but it could have had the defect and i just didnt happen to pass borescope over it/ ill see if i can clean it out- thanks
Any chance you may have had an obstruction in there at some point in time?
it is possible. I don’t remember anything out of ordinary happening. Sure looks like the good part of a bullet ripped apart in there. this Spot wasn’t in there before that I notice when cleaning either so it may have happened last time out. Scary thanks

Well I cleaned it tonite and it sure looks welded in. Nothing to lose so I’ll soak it over nite a few times like you say.

Any chance your cases are wet cleaned with steel pins?
I've heard of at least a couple times where a steel pin was left in the case after cleaning, the case was loaded and the steel pin was shot down the barrel. The descriptions of the barrel were similar to what your pics show.

Same thoughts here. Piece of sand or dirt, lube bead, piece of primer or other FOD.

That’s interesting and something to watch for for sure. Never been any wet/steel pin cleaning around here but it is possible something else got in there somehow. never Had something like That happen but I’ll be double checking for it now. Thanks

You don’t really see it from the pics but there is a lump sticking out considerably into the bore. I suppose I have shot it this way but don’t want to anymore. Last group i shot was a little over an inch- not good for what this gun used to do. But like you say amazing to me if this lump was in the bore. Imagine what that is doing to bullets when they pass by

Please send me or post a few pics when copper is gone . I like to keep files of bore pics . Soon Ill have someone with computer skills to make a folder of them for the future. When someone asks what does “x” look like in the bore and what will it do ? Ill have pics to show , hopefully!
