cheapest way to make a 220 swift AI. 1 in 9 or 10 twist

Im wanting a 220 swift AI 1 in 9 or 10 twist. What would be the easiest way to get one? I like Remington 700. I want a H&S precision stock. I have no clue how to do this.

There are nicer actions than the 700's. Look at Winchester, Ruger, Kimber, Brno etc.

The AI is a waste of time and fireforming.

The 243 will do what a quick twist 220 will and more.

Just buy a 243.

IMHO -

I recommend use of my wildcat .22-35.... which is .35 REM necked-down to .224" calibre.

.22-35 gets its superb case capacity w/o having to "blow-out" shoulders; like the AI-series wildcats do.

.22-35 also has an easy-to-form 26* shoulder angle.

.22-35 uses a standard .308 bolt face, and cases extract just fine ( my rifle is Wichita WBR1375 action fitted with an AR-style extractor ).

My .22-35 shot from a 28" K & P SS 5-groove 1-8 put 3,500fps on a 75 "A"-Max.
Load was 40.5gr AA3100 and FED LR Magnum Match. Accuracy load was the same powder, charge, and bullet; with simple primer switch to FED LR Match. Vel dropped a tad to 3,420 fps, but groups shrank even tighter than before !.

.22-35 is easy-to-form, and qulaity brass is readily available.

I have gone on to use of a new 6mm wildcat of my own design, so have all my .22-35 stuff for sale ( chamber and re-szie reamers, case forming die set, re-loading dies; et al ).

You want 220 Swift, just buy my Ruger No. 1 220 Swift and re-barrel if you want to shoot heavier bullets.

As to 243 Rem doing everything a 220 Swift can do, I respectively disagree. I also have a Browning 1885 in 243. It cannot match my Ruger for pin point accuracy at 200-300 yards. Until I got my BAT action .222 Rem from Russ Haydon, the Ruger was my most accurate centerfire ever.

All AI's are very cool...just screwed on a new CBI 22-250AI 9twist on Saturday....most of my gun are swap bbls My SwiftAI shoots good but finding good brass can be a pain in the ass......You can always find WW 22-250 brass and it is not too bad & factory ammo in a pinch...I would build my first gun on a Savage action, the barrel nut makes barrel changeing a breeze. I have reamers for both calibers....You are most welcomed to use one

I used a Savage action and a Boyds laminated thumbhole stock. Bought a stainless fluted Savage take off barrel in 223 with a 1:9 twist and re-chambered to 220 Swift. Very economical build. I also have 22-250 1:12 twist and 6mmAI 1:8 twist barrels that I can install in just a few minutes on this same action. Installed SSS trigger and Burris Black Diamond scope. Looks good, performs fantastic. This pretty much covers everything from 400 to 1200 yards for my varmint hunting.

Find a donor Savage or Remington rfile, buy a prefit Criterion, Pacnor, Shilen, or McGowen chambered barrel in .220 AI in the twist/contour of your choice and have a good smith screw them together and varmints beware! If careful you can keep project under 1000 bucks and that includes a decent power scope.
