Cheapest way to a 457 action

What is the cheapest model/place to get a 457? I already have a barrel and plan to make my own stock. Assuming I’d still need to buy a complete rifle and stand alone actions are not available?

Cheapest and likely the easiest is to buy an American with the wood stock - sell the barrel and stock and use the action on your project.

Scouts used to be the cheapest in the 452 and 455. Do they still have a 457 scout?

You can buy an American new for just a few dollars more than what people sell the actions for.

I've done 457 builds a couple of times now and have found that buying a full rifle and selling off the unneeded parts is the cheapest way to go. (The recievers, bolts and triggers are all the exact same thing.) An American works but a Varmint will get you more $ (and a faster sell) in the retail flip as the parts are more desirable and less often seen. Used works well too if you can find a basic rifle. There are a couple of things to watch for though. First, synthetic models don't come with the trigger guard /bottom metal you may/may not need for your new build. Second, 17hmr/22 mag models will not come with the mag block spacer needed for .22 builds. (Their mags have better resale though). The good news is that it's a CZ 457 so all the parts needed can usually be had on Ebay or misc forums. if you mess up.

Like others have said, it's not easy to find just the action. So find whoever has the cheapest flavor of full rifle.

Its usually the scout or the american.

That's what I did. Got the American, shot it for a year, then sold the stock/barrel on RFC.

Added a Boyds Varmint pro stock, Bartlein barrel, added an 8 oz spring to the trigger and she's a shooter now.
