Change in POI after 10 rounds?

Shooting at Lodi last week I noticed something during my last two strings @ 1000. The wind was strong and I had dialed almost 4 min right windage (shooting a 223. I know, I'm stupid). First sighter, aimed dead center, still left in 7 ring. Held right 7 ring, 2nd shot still left 9 ring. Held 5 ring, shot was a 10. OK, all is now good and my next 7 shots are all 10's or close. Then without warning, I start hitting where I am aiming. All flags are still blowing hard right to left. Thinking it was a fluke, I still held right and hit where I was aiming again. Now I start aiming center and my last few shots were right there, 10's or 9's. This happened on my last 2 strings, with the wind strong right to left. I'm thinking something is shifting in my action or barrel as it heats up. Any thoughts?

I'd move in to one hundred yards and shoot when the wind is not blowing to verify the rifle and if the same thing happens look at the scope and mounts, rifle bedding and your shooting position. I had the same experience and luckily transferred my scope to a 30-06 which quickly showed the malfunction was the scope, the .223's are sometimes a problem due to the low recoil. Good luck.

maybe it was just the fluke Lodi wind, like it is here at Oak Ridge.. we get unexplaind wind all the time here.. still have not figured out yet what truly is causing it

ALOT of stuff happens between 100 and 1000 yrds. I wouldn't be too quick to blame anything on the gun,

well I did move to 100yds and noticed the same thing (not as drastic). Took the gun apart to check bedding. It was OK, but I noticed the barrel channel looked to have some high spots. A dollar bill passed Ok, but not a business card. Did a LOT of sanding. Back to 100yds and it now shoots one holers.
