Oh I gotcha. That’s neat. I just measure pitch diameter. I want to make a tool that’s threaded and indexed, but can also be used to measure the headspace and cone depth

Why complicate things. Thread mic for the threads and a slip fit collar with micrometer thimble to measure HS. Then a simple threaded collar for indexing the engraving. Simple tools for simple solutions. Multipurpose tools are usually a compromise.
A piloted gage such as Butch's has severed me well for 40+ years. I have one for 25 and 30 degrees.
