Chambering .375 DCM vs. .375 Cheytac?

Hi Guys,

I'm going to have a .375 Cheytac built and I'm told chambering in .375 DCM (.375 CT Improved) is the way to go.

Can anyone here please tell me what the chambering difference is between .375 Cheytac and .375 DCM?

What advantages will I get from chambering in .375 DCM?
Does it offer larger case capacity for more powder?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Chamering .375 DCM vs. .375 Cheytac?

The Chey-Tac case holds an enormous amount of powder. Why would you want more? Chey-Tac components and dies are also readily available. Bill Shehane happens to have a .375 Chey-Tac ready to go, and for sale.

Thanks but I'm having a custom .375 built. Looking for information on chambering...

I would think your best source of information will come from Chey-Tac.

As was told you on another forum, too much work and a pain with no gain.

Well, not according to those who've gone with a chambered improved CT like the DCM, Snipetac or Allen Magnum.

And here's the answer to my own post. Let me enlighten you.
Extreme terminal and ballistic performance, longer throat life and more velocity, more case capacity etc.

Links or your source of info? If you have answers that you believe, don't ask me. You need to just act on it.
Are you another sniper's hide person?

md,
You asked questions on 2 forums and disregarded the suggestions. That is why you should go ahead and do the extra powder capacity and the fire forming that you are intent on doing.
I just asked about snipers hide. Is that a bad association?

Butch,

I've asked this question on a few forums and not had much help. This has been a good source of information in the past. I'm sorry if I took your comment the wrong way. With that said, I'd just soon close this thread anyway. No need for any further comments on this subject.

I would get in touch with Dave Viers at http://www.blackdiamondrifles.com/ he has worked more with this 408 case and variants of it than probably anyone and should be able to answer your questions.

Must be quite busy. I've sent him a few emails over the past month. No reply as of yet. Thanks.

If you cannot get in touch with Dave I would try http://www.baercustomrifles.com/ or http://terminatorproducts.co.nz/. If you call baer he will more than likely be the one answering the phone and he also has bottom metal and mags in stock for the cheytac size cases.

Dave Viers built my .375 Snipetac. He does exceptional work, but doesn't always answer quickly. My opinion is to sit tight and wait for a response. If that doesn't work, keep trying the "professionally annoying" angle. I believe he has done extensive testing with his 375 viersco magnum, and is a wealth of knowledge concerning the 375/408 Cheytac family.

I can push a 375 grain RM bullet at over 2900 FPS in the Snipetac chamber using 138 grains of H50 BMG. That gets me out there farther than I am able to accurately shoot (yet). I am now going to experimenti with Retumbo and the 352 grain CE bullets as they are a lot cheaper to shoot.

Butch,

Dave Viers built me a 375 Snipetac (375 Cheytac improved). It is a barker action, 32" broughton barrel, 1-10" twist, in a mcree precision stock. I have shot out to 900 yards with the 375 grain Rocky Mountain RBAT behind 138 grains of H50BMG powder and a fed 215GM primer. It's an impressive blast, but accuracy so far is less than appealing (About 4 MOA when I pass 500 yards). Things at 200 yards look good, about 1 MOA. Dave recommends the 350 grain class bullets with Retumbo and I am excited to try that combo.

Sam,

Thanks for the reply and information. Heard really good things about David's sticks. He must be very busy though. Send several emails with no reply.

I plan on shooting the solid projectiles like the Cutting Edge Bullets. Both the MTH 425gr and the MTAC 427gr. require a 1:7" twist. So I'm going with a Bartlein 32"/33" barrel with a gain twist of 1:12" - 1:7" / 5R rifling / 4-6 knox to straight taper 0.925".

Still deliberating between the Stiller action or the Barnard P Chey action.

Will continue to try and get a hold of David and do more research as to what the actual difference is between the .375 CT chamber vs the .375 Snipetac chambering.

Best.

MD
