Chambering .375 DCM vs. .375 Cheytac?

Looked at some of the website photos. What is the purpose of the big bolt knobs? Is it for the kool or what does it do?

Good question. Maybe just proportionate to the size of the bolt?
I know the bolt knob on my Defiance Machine on my .338 LM is a bit large but it does feel good when chambering a round.

maybe it's just the photo? The bolt knob on my rifle is almost identical to the knob on both my stiller TAC actions. The length of the lever is about 1/2" longer than the stiller.

My Bud shoots hogs all the time at 800yds. He uses a 300 and 338 Ultra Mag on a rebarreled 700 Remington. He has a decent scope and a good trigger.

I worked with Dave Viers while I was deployed in Iraq 2011-2012 to build this rifle. I will be completely honest in saying this thing is just a toy of mine, and I don't have any specific purpose for this rifle other than having fun and saying I have "the bigger one" when shooting with friends. This custom rifle thing has gotten the better of me (thanks Butch) and building rifles while I am deployed helps me keep my sanity. This last deployment (Afghanistan 2014) I had Billy Stevens help me put together a 6x47 Lapua...19" barrel + Elesio chassis + suppressor = my new favorite rifle.
Sorry for high jacking your thread MD.

I'll hijack MD's thread one more time. I have a 416 Rigby(a cartridge developed in 1911) that shoots a 350grain bullet with 107 grains of IMR7828 at 2700FPS with a 24" barrel. It is built on a 1917 Enfield. I wonder what a few more inches of barrel would do?

Only one way to find out, Butch!

I also own a 416 rigby. It's a 28" barrel on an encore frame. I was curious as to how it would shoot the bullets designed for the 408 Cheytac, but fairly confident the longer/heavier bullets would not stabilize well so I have never even attempted it. That rifle is a pain (literally) to shoot with even moderate loads using 350 grain bullets.

Been watching this thread since it started. I don't have anything to really offer because the Cheytac has never appealed to me until my father-in-law told me to build one a few weeks ago. Looks like we will build off the Barnard action, healthy bolt and Barnard of course are well known for being great actions. I see you are going to get a Bartlein barrel, the web page says they aren't doing them, Any truth to that? I thought we would go with a Brux 1-10, don't know jack about gain twists.

It's all new to me as well. Most barrels have the 1:10 twist which suits the SMK 350 gr. bullets fine.

I'm interested in shooting a heavier solid like the Cutting Edge Bullets.
The MTH 425gr. and the MTAC 427gr. require a 1:7" twist rate. So that's why I'm contemplating the gain twist of 1:12" - 1:7". Starts the projectile gently and then gains momentum is what I was told.

Don't know what the wait time is for a Bartlein with a gain twist rate. Still seeing if that's an option or not.

What was the problem with the mono bullets? I am just starting to load them, but have not shot any yet. Was the major issue ... SD? Poor accuracy? Copper fouling? What powder did you try, and what bullet weights did you use?

I do know that they cannot hold dimensions like a a copper jacketed lead core bullet. Also they have to be longer to have the same weight as a copper lead bullet and they are much more expensive.

Very poor accuracy!I went through 3 barrels using brass and copper bullets to confirm the same findings and just about all powders. What accuracy in three shots one day will not repeat with 5 or 10 the next..338 was the diameter.Frustrated me so bad gotta go to therapy just talking about it!
