CHAMBER REAMERS

I can see single point cutting could work with larger calibres but I suspect tool rigidity might be an issue with smaller calibres. I guess very high speeds and ultra light cuts would be in order.

The GenSwiss SDQ bars work well, light cuts and screaming fast spindle speeds are needed. Doing them on a Swiss screw machine would be the hot ticket. But then you would have to have another machine to contour the OD.

I just dont see cnc cut chambers putting any reamer makers out of business. As many cnc machines as we have out there ive yet to see one cut a chamber on the equipment list

Back in 2007 already, Phil Bower set a IBS-1000 record in HV-Gun for Group with a CNC single point cut chamber.
In the industry, I believe all Tikka and Sako chambers are being single point cut as well.

Attaching a picture of a boring-bar used to single-point cut chambers. That particular one will do 243/6mm throats and/or larger.

An innovative future is what foresee....

Of all things, the difference between a single point cut chamber vs. one cut by a reamer will show essentially zero difference in accuracy.

The reasons for choosing one reamer manufacturer over another are customer service and a precise match of the finished reamer to the original order specs. All the reamers are made round and perfectly so. If you can dial in a barrel blank, you can cut a concentric chamber. If you have good working knowledge of your feeds and cutting fluids, you can cut concentric chambers with fabulous interior finishes.

I ASSume that the biggest benefit to CNC as it pertains to chambering a barrel is in the quality and lead time of our custom reamers. I don't know that CNC grinders are being used, but I'd be surprised if the medium + sized shops weren't.

I think his single point cutting tool thought was to give the smith the ability to adjust cut depths on a as needed basis. I can certainly see the theoretical advantage, but a TL1 is a pretty small machine relative to most CNC lathes. I can not imagine having to dedicate the footprint for a Mazac or something comparable for a typical size gunsmith operation. One thing that I have always appreciated in machining is there are many ways to do the same thing and it comes down to what works best for you. So more power to folks trying different approaches.

Wonder who it is then.... ;D Every time I've had problems with them the Boss says that I'm the only one who had problems with their products or service :o

They wouldn't even respond to my e-mail when I wanted to buy a reamer. Too much business, I suppose.

PTG should change there name to PBS!
Ordered a reamer from em.... It took so long I actually forgot I ordered it!!
Ya they made it right but I can't bring back lost time.

I emailed JGS a reamer print for them to check and OK the design. They emailed me back the next day and said I just need to call them and give my credit card number to get started. I had that reamer in my hands in 5 weeks exactly. Perfect customer service.

Now on the the other hand, I tried this with another manufacture and about 3 months later I finally got a call from the "boss" and asked what I wanted to order. I told him I had called many times and talked to many different girls that had no idea if I had ever called them before. Not one of them could find any record of my order because the one I had talked with wasn't in the office today.

This was not a one time occurrence either. I look at it now as, S---- me once, shame on you, S---- me twice shame on me.

My orders with PTG have been fairly smooth and responsive. I ordered something last month that was shipped out the next day. Overall Ive been satisfied. Their has been a lead time in the past on some items, but was never to excessive.

PTGs office staff is a total disaster. Absolutely
a lack of communication back to the customer.
No returned ph calls or emails answered
Lost orders, wrong products sent, improper
CC billing/ reimbursements. The right hand
doesnt have a clue what the left is doing.

The best customer based business in the world
cannot survive these inefficiencies forever.
Such a shame. LDS

I have been trying to order two reamers from PT&G now for a week. At one point Dave even came on the phone and I discussed what I wanted for 2 minutes, he concurred and transferred me to one of the "GIRLS". I have never received an email twice from the same "GIRL". It's a new one each order. I was told the reamers I wanted my even be in stock but nobody could check or anything. I was told they would email me a print- that was early last week. Their price is good, the quality has been fine for the dozens of other reamers I have ordered. I can't deal with an office staff that is so inefficient and disorganized.

I am going to call JGS and Manson tomorrow and get my reamers (6mmSLR and 6x47L) ordered with which ever one gives me the warmest and fuzziest feeling. I am so done with Dave Kiff and his girls. I hope he can get an office manager in there that is worth a hoot so we don't continue to hear these stories.

Very hard to get reamers here in Aus. My last few have all been PT&G. 284 shehane reamer is fine Im happy with it. 6BR reamer ordered a 0 freebore and the smith chambered my varmint rifle for me. Had trouble reaching the rifling with 55gr bullets. Measured it and I have about 100 thou before I touch the rifling. Looked at the reamer and just about threw it in the bin. Not pleased. A friend checked some of his new reamers from them too and isnt impressed by the wrong dimensions on the freebore. A gunsmith had one here that wouldnt cut with all the cutting flutes. When I get a fresh 284 shehane reamer in a year or so I will be getting a whole new line of reamers from JGS.
