Chamber cast shows rifling is "off"

This is what I see. A general idea, anyway...

One side rifling ends .09

Roll 160* and rifling ends .18 from chamber neck cut.

Have not shot the gun yet. Checking everything and loading some test rounds.

The good news is that it's a 30 inch barrel, straight 1&1/4 inch bull, so it can be whacked and re chambered fairly simply but more bucks. If it shoots half decent, I'll live with it.
Humor? The guy cut a "split throat".:-) Half for the 95s and half for the 105s.:-)

josh,

Like your attitude! Some guys would be trying to hunt down the smith to lop off the leg of his firstborn...but you took it in stride, and made a joke about it. I bet your shooting friends like to be around you. Good luck with the rifle and let us know how it shoots.

I paid good money for a chamber job years ago to a highly respected smith and had the same issue. I would load ammo long, and the bullet had marks from rifling only on one side. I raised hell with the smith, and he was so defensive asking if I shot over flags and how much money he had invested in flags, pure BS. I do my own metal work now and can assure he was a lazy prick. I like you probably have lost confidence in that barrel, but mine actually shot decent..... He lived in Red Lion PA.

Ha-ha, just be sure to mark an index on the cases so you know which way to turn them before feeding into the chamber...

My 7mm was a similar story and was a quick fix (three turns by hand) with a finishing throater (not including disassembly). If you decide that you want to fix it, there are many avenues to take, just don't forget this one as a possibility.

Probably shooting it tomorrow. Will report. I think my gun was talking to me today. " set me back and make me a Dasher" could be the cold medicine, tho.

At least with your action all you gotta do is call your gunsmith and youll have a barrel on the way without having to send it off

I'm on the "up slope" of my learning curve. It sure makes me feel warm and fuzzy to hear that! I shot the gun yesterday. Nothing stellar yet. Best groups were in the threes and fours. I'll work on it for a while and see.
