CH3 Reticle

Anyone here had any experience with the Nightforce CH3. I am planning on getting a BR 12-42 and I think this it the reticle that I want. We have some informal matches here and the shooting is any where from 200 to 600 yards with a mix of paper and steel targets.

Anyone have any complaints with the CH3?

Had a 2DD, liked it, so I decided to try the CH3 thinking 'aim small miss small'. Turned out the reticle was too fine for my eyes... I spent a lot of time having to close and rest my shooting eye, then open it, acquire the target, aim, and shoot inside about ten seconds before the cross hair would just fade out on me. Doesn't do wonders for your score, trust me :(

Some people love it. I've talked to more than one person who found it to be too fine for them. Very hard to see such a fine reticle on a black target (ala F-Class) on an overcast day with a scope that already gets a little dark at the upper magnification (42x). On bright days and/or on targets that are lighter colored like white backer or an orange target spot... it didn't work too badly.

I sent mine back and paid to have them changed to the 2DD again.

YMMV,

Monte

I have a CH2 on the same scope. I really like the fine crosshairs and simplicity. My NPR1's get real busy. GTG

I have a NF 12-42 BR with the CH3 reticle on my F-class rifle, I have used it for a season and a half. I like it, I have not had any problems finding the dot on F-class targets. Just make sure you have the reticle focused properly and you have the parallax dialed in, I am 38 so my eyes are still OK though. It might be a good idea to look through one before you spend your money just to make sure it is what you want. A lot of people that I shoot with also like the NP2-DD.

I have both the CH1 and the CH3 and like both. The next one i get though is going to be another CH1. It really comes down to personal preference

I had a NXS 12-42 with the CH-1, but traded for another scope. I like the CH-1, because it is easy to hold off at long yardage. Not so with a dot.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't know why NF doesn't offer the NPR1 in the BR scopes. I have the NPR1 in my NXS's and I love them. I don't like to dial for windage, I would rather hold off instead. The NPR2 has 5 moa windage marks which are to coarse for my liking. I was thinking that the CH3 with the 1 moa gap might work but it may actually be a little to fine. I may go with the 2DD. Decisions, decisions ???
