cfe223 ??

anyone else use this powder? i tried it in my 223 with

sierra 69 gr bullets..I think it is better than varget...

Not really sure if the stuff elemates copper fouling

or not..I not it shoots good..I am only using 23.7 gr

for 300 yards..Just wanted to pass this along..

It is a superb powder.

Quickly becoming my powder or choice for 6mm & 6.5 mm ARs.

The photo shows a safe load that got me interested in CFE. Then, later I saw even better groups at a higher node.

I read on here what I could find in the archives on it. I bought it to load in my ftr .223 but instead went with H4895 in it. Well two days ago I ran a QL with cfe .223 for a .308 Tac rifle I put together running 175smk. Hopefully I will take it out this weekend and try it. I bought this powder 2 years ago and figured I would get around too using it someday. I do have a 22" sporter running 68 gr. Hornaday bthp I may try it in.

I like CFE. It is a bit temp sensitive but not terrible. The copper eliminator seems to work pretty well. I use it in my 6x45 and pick up 50-75 fps over 4895 with the same bullet. But I like 4895 too...

4895 is allso a good choice....my son uses varget all the
time. but,I can never get it to work good for me. Maybe
it's the case's..He uses winchester and I use the PMC's
that someone leaves at the range...One day I found about
125 case's there..

I bought a pound of CFE 223, loaded some .223 test rounds, and shot some 5 shot groups in the mid 3s at 100 yards. Based on that, and my desire to find a powder which meters well in my Lock N Load case activated powder measure, I bought 10 more pounds. Unfortunately, I never could duplicate that initial success. In fact, it performed poorly in several carefully prepared tests, so I sold nearly all of what I had left.

Later I started reloading 6mm BR and when I wanted to test some SMK 107s out of my 28" barrel, I tried the CFE 223 again simply because it was the slowest burning powder I had on hand. To my delight about a third of my 5 shot groups with CFE 223 are below 1/4 MOA and the average MOA of all 5 shot load development groups is .332. That includes the loads and seating depths that are the worst as well as those which are the best. In other words, plenty of non-optimum groups are in that .332 MOA average.

This afternoon I bought another two pounds for continued testing. It meters well with extreme spreads of less than +/- 0.1gr and I hope to make it my go-to powder for 6mm BR Norma rounds with bullets on the heavy side. Time will tell.

loaded some 62 grain barns sxx or whatever today.
with the cfe223 i was groupin 3 in 3/4 inch off the
rest at 150 yds. 223 cal. 9 twist should be good for the mighty white
tail....next month will tell....
