I need to know what the barrel is capable of
It all revolves around using the correct paper once again!! Nice job tim for sureBig fan as well!
all I’m saying is make sure you are on the spot !
same gun same bullet same powder charge
two different seating depths
IME you have to make sure of seating depth prior to screwing on the tuner
Not talking about chasing the lands just finding the right spot!
If you look really close even the hole that looks good isn't quite thereIt all revolves around using the correct paper once again!! Nice job tim for sure
You can. I start out with the tuner on the rifle.I start with a square mark on the bullet and a given powder charge close to where I wxpect to end up. I start backing out of the lands .003 at a time. When I find a good spot, that repeats, I start going up a tenth at a time until I find a repeatable good spot or hit pressure. If I do not find a good spot I will then go down in po9wder from my starting spot, seldom get to this step but it did happen 2 yrs aho with a button barrel, I normally shoot cut barrels. When I find a spot that will repeat with group in the zeros and ones I get the Lab Radar out and ck ES. I usually can adjust that with primer brand shooting for low single digits. Once I am there now I will try to refine what I have with the tuner, maybe making the hole nice and round.I shoot the same round in 2 rifles done with the same creamer and after about 10 or so years with this combo I have a real good idea were to start. Most of these barrels have shoot the same powder charge with in .3. The one exception was the button barrel. As I pile up rounds over a season I keep in tune strictly with the tuner, I seldom change the load. I have a time or two at about 1500 rounds went .004 arbitrarily deeper in the rifiling then retuned with the tuner only. I have only done this to see if it helped. With one gun a shot for 2.5 seasons about 4500 rounds, still shoot fine. I would retune every month. I guess if I ever had a hummer it was than it barrel. Did not need wind flags with it, hold it in the middle, it went in the middle. I love my Bob Green tuners.I was wondering what the thinking was to finding seating depth without tuner on. Why can the correct seating depth not be found with it on?
Sweet! I've always struggled trying to tune for small bullet holes on the paper. Looks like you have it figured out!Big fan as well!

That’s right a couple things I want to gauge that barrel and I want to best I can establish seating depthTim, are you saying when you put the tuner on the tune does not change? I would think adding weight has to change the tune as moving the weight to change the frequency of vibrations is how a tuner works. Perhaps you are only tuning without a tuner to explore the limits of the rifle/barrel before putting the tuner on?
Thanks,
Dave.
Nice work Stan, keep us posted on your shooting results.Well gentleman I just joined you tuner guru's might be needing a little help time to time.View attachment 1152165
No I’m not finding seating depth by a single hole. But I do examine a single hole to confirm my seating depth testingSo Tim
Lots of good info in this thread. I'm reading into this by the looks of things that you are able to find the best seating depth by a single bullet hole at different increments. I understand tohe concept but have a couple questions. How large is the increment? What point along the powder charge weight do use for the test (max, middle, low end)? And apparently you hav a little stiffer paper or have it mounted to a cardboard backer of some sort to get no tears? Thanks Lonnie
Looks good Stan! I'm not sure we covered some things, as far as just getting started out. Please do give me a call if I can be of help in some way.Well gentleman I just joined you tuner guru's might be needing a little help time to time.View attachment 1152165

Start tuner testing at 100 yards! It's not about final tune at this stage, but about learning the tuner. What you learn here will carry out to any distance. Worry about tune at your distance next!
I though I was talking to a professional!Mike
Thanks for the quick turnaround on the tuner I set up my shank an threaded it to your specific instructions, I hired me a professional to thread this tuner up LOL I will definitely be burning your ear from time to time thanks again.
