It's good to know that it can be done.I hope I have success to.Maybe I found an excuse for a custom action.lolFWIW, I ran CCI 400’s with full pressure 6PPC loads in a custom action for an entire season in 2021 with no issues at all.
I have used CCI 400 in Peterson SRP 260AI brass with no issues as well with 47.5 gr. of H-4831 and 140 gr. bullet.FWIW, I ran CCI 400’s with full pressure 6PPC loads in a custom action for an entire season in 2021 with no issues at all.
Took my test loads to the range today and am pleased to report that everything went well. There was some minor cratering but no more than the winchester primers displayed, rifle is a savage.Worked loads back up to my normal load of 26.0 grains of benchmark and 50 grn v-max 26.5 is book max.Next will come accuracy testing. Thanks to everyone for the replies and info.I have used CCI 400 in Peterson SRP 260AI brass with no issues as well with 47.5 gr. of H-4831 and 140 gr. bullet.
Disassemble you bolt and make sure you don't have the tiny metal discs from pierced primer inside the bolt head.I quit using the CCI400 in my Savage after last summer when I started to see the cratering signs and then actually had 5 pierce the primers. Since then I have started getting FTF in this rifle with the CCI450 which I had never experienced before. So damaged firing pin? Maybe.
Did that, didn't find anything. Cleaned it all anyways before reassembly.Disassemble you bolt and make sure you don't have the tiny metal discs from pierced primer inside the bolt head.
With an excellent firing pin/boltface you can get away with a lot.FWIW, I ran CCI 400’s with full pressure 6PPC loads in a custom action for an entire season in 2021 with no issues at all.

I put in a PTG bolt head in my savage and it helped immensely with cratering.I had a problem with ftf, and solved with a PTG bolthead which has a smaller diameter firing pin hole plus a new spring which frequently becomes weak on a Savage. In addition the protrusion often needs adjustment as well. Not uncommon for a Savage.

I believe this has been going on for a while as I talked to you last fall about bushing some Savage bolt heads and then heard that you got sick. But once again take care and get well! I can wait. Thanks, I was getting a lot of spam calls. Spent this week in the hospital. Not enough blood in me apparently.
