CBP picks Glock for new handgun

Before a match or going on duty I'd wipe my pistol and mags with a silicone cloth and they'd come out of the holster nice and smooth.

My buddy has a 43X, that is why I got one. Side by side same mag either the OEM or a Shield would drop from his and not from mine. Not a heat gun my wife's blow dryer. I was shocked at how soft the poly got in a short amount of time. I was only heating the grip area, maybe the the slide rail area is better poly? There are YouTube's you can watch on this if you are interested. I am neither a Glock hater nor a fanboy. I think striker fired handguns are safe (er), why the government wants them for their people. I also think for most folks they are harder to shoot well, nothing beats a SA trigger pull.
Very unusual regardless. I've been shooting the Glocks in 2 LE jobs since the 80s when they arrived. Never had those issues. Obviously they exist but thankfully not in any LE agency I've heard this from. I own numerous 1911 model guns. I love them but do not feel as safe with one like I do a Glock. We've tested Glocks under water, in Mud, sand and extreme cold and hot and they run 100% in all conditions. They are not 100% flawless in all those conditions but they were in normal conditions. If I had to have an issue with a Glock heating up from extreme sun or heat, I'd take that over a 1911 malfunctioning from sand, dust/dirt or water. Many other pistol's fail from those 3 elements. My 1911s can hold tighter groups off a bench than many of my Glocks with the exception of the 10mm's. You shouldn't have to swap out mags to get the issue you have solved but I'd still recommend the Shield S15 mags for if nothing else, higher capacity

Metal vs poly handgun second thoughts. I recently purchased a Glock 43X to shoot in some local BUG gun matches. From the beginning it would not drop a mag, you had to hold down the release and claw the mag out. Found online that this was a common problems with Glock. The hack to fix it was to wrap a mag in blue painters tape, heat the frame up, and force the mag in the well. The frame cools off, you remove the mag and now a mag with no tape has more clearance and will drop out. This worked great, problem solved. What I learn from this is my wife's blow dryer in short time will melt a Glock. That Poly with a little heat will get soft as do do.
You sure don't want to leave it in the Arizona sun. In less than a month I have put 3000 rounds down the tube. Three misfires, most likely the ammo. I still can not shoot it well.
Without beating this to death , I've lived in "Zona" for over Forty years , and my Glock 22 has seen literally thousands of hours exposed to our desert heat , as my primary Transportation was a pair of Goldwing's . The only issue I've ever had with Mags , is when I bought six Korean Mags , and every one had to be sanded down about .005 to get them to "DROP" out of the Mag Well . Factory Glock Mags ? By the time the button gets fully pushed , the Mag is bouncing on the ground . That's my story , and I'm stickin to it . :D:D:D:D

Did heating it up solve the problem? I'm not sure I would want to take a blow dryer to a polymer frame. It would seem to me the magazine catch would have been the first thing I looked at, or sent it back to the maker.

I believe many of the reasons government agencies like to issue striker-fired guns is because they are drop-safe, they are easier to train the user on, they are more reliable, and they are offered to government agencies at a very attractive price. Most single-action guns can't past drop-testing or reliability testing. When Schwartz safeties are added to 1911s, they suddenly lose some of that gleam the single-action trigger has.

To me, the HK Lite LEM is a thing of beauty for a defensive handgun and it certainly is a of a higher quality than a Glock, including the polymer. That isn't to say it is better per se.

Yes, but not just heating, you need to stretch the frame mag well with a magazine wrapped in tape and let it cool to the new shape. FYI some asked about the release being the problem, that is the 1st place I looked, the mags stuck with no release in the gun.
