Guys

Would a alum tube 4" in diameter by 10" long,
with an 1-1/2" hole diameter thru the center,
be secure/accurate enough, when chucked in a 4 jaw chuck.

Would I need my 4 post, ball bearing steady rest,
to support the other end?

I plan on using Brass tipped Allen screws on both ends for safety reasons.

Take Dusty's advice like gold - he knows what he's talking about. I made one from a huge chunk of 4140 steel (Boring a 1.5" hole down 9" of chromoly is truly exhausting). I wish I had just bought the damn Viper.
