HEADS UP...New 6mm Berger 105 VLD's

Eric:

I have a customer who has been shooting the 105s in a 6BRX with a 32' Broughton 1:8, 5C barrel. His velocities with 32.5 grains of Varget have been 3070 fps with a ES of less than 9 fps. Last weekend he did extensive testing with the new lot 559 105s. To get 3070fps he had to increase his load 1.5 grains. They did shoot equally as well at the equivelent velocities.

Eric, please advise the lot # designating the new dimension. I`m just a standby that has been watching this and can appreciate the toil involved to try and satisfy the shooters best interest. I`ll buy your bullets. I have a new 8 1/2" twist 6-47 Lapua on a BAT "B" action smithed by D. Scott that needs some great components, thanks.

All,

We are currently making lot 591 which measures .24355 at the pressure ring even though it is being made by the same die that we used for lot 559. The anomaly is gone.

Regards,
Eric

2 boxes Lot# 591 on the way from Russ Hayden, thanks.

I hope that all Berger 105 VLD fans will find this to be a happy and fitting end to the "HEADS UP..." blog which I started a few weeks ago.

Noting that the revised new Berger 105 was said to measure fatter after Berger's polish job on the die, I ordered-in 5 flame orange boxes of lot #591 from Sinclair to try in my 6BRX. I tested them through one of my Bartlein 1:8 6mm barrels this weekend in regional 1000y shoot. Results were ho-hum.

HOWEVER....I pulled the Bartlein barrel this morning and installed my Broughton 1:8 5C straight tube that has over 2000 rounds through it. Loaded 20 cases with same powder charge that worked well last year with the "old" Berger VLD and went to weekly 1000y fun meet this afternoon.

At 1000y on the new 1/2 moa F-Class targets my first 5 shots, sighters, since I had to re-zero after first zeroing-in at 600) were both in and around the x ring with only one, shot #2, straying into the 9 ring. Final result, including sighters and next 15 shots was 199-14 x's in light, variable wind on the new F Class target.
