The bride is looking at buying a Blackhawk in .30 carbine. I always try to be one step ahead in her gun purchases and am looking for input on a cast load for it so I can be scouting for an appropriate mold. Will be checking on the cast boolitts site also but know a few here shoot cast.

I bought one in 1967 it is a 3 digit sn#, it was hard to carry with the 7 1/2 in. barrel so I had the barrel shortened to 4 5/8 I have shot 100s of 110 grain lead bullets with unique powder if you think military ammo has a big blast wait till you see it with the 4 5/8

Well, come June the 10th we will have been married 54 years. She has always been a shooter and hunter, has her own gun safe and also collects knives. In the seventies I had traded into a .375HH in a transition model 70 Winchester. When she saw one of the rounds her first statement was "When can I shoot this". At that time she was all of 90 lbs. Told her she could shoot it next time we were out hunting ground hogs but she would have to shoot it off hand, not prone or from the bench. She shouldered it and fired it, I expected that once would be enough but when she turned towards me grinning ear to ear her comment was hand me a couple more rounds. Not only does she like firearms, knives and hunting she is intrigued by anything mechanical and likes muscle cars, drag racing and motorcycles. Has her own '71 Plymouth Sebring Road Runner Clone project sitting in our garage waiting to be completed.

I won't lie and say that we never had an argument or a disruption in our relationship, we ran off as teenagers and got married so we had a lot of growing up to do but we did it together. Have two great daughters and 2 equally good son in laws and 5 grand children to show for the effort. Life is good.

hpshooter, the 30 carbine in a pistol is absolutely the loudest gun I have ever fired, had a Ruger to shoot jack rabbits with back in the late 70's.

Hip shooter If you want a few of these w Gas Checks 113 grain .310 diameter Lee cast slugs let me know by PM. PS" I use unique powder w most cast. & if you still have the 375 ouch n ouch.. have I got a cast bullet load for you !!! MikeinCt

THAT^^^^^ is a great offer and idea. That bullet (with gas check) is pretty near perfect for that gun.

I also will go along with above comments about that gun being the loudest most annoying weapon you're liable to hear. People in the area will snap their heads around and say "What in the Hell is that thing?!!

They are sure an impressive shooter though. jd

I agree, friend had one in the 70's amazing how loud it was.

The .375 was sold years ago to a close friend who had an FFL. He kept it for a number of years and sold it to an FFL in Jackson Hole WY. Ouch & Ouch is a great description, some guns are capable of inflicting pain on both ends.

In my 375 H&H I use the Lyman 270 Gr cast w gas check. W/ my blend of 94% Pb 4%Sb & 2%Sn it weighs 283 grains. Little on the soft side. I use 66% of the max load of IMR 4895 & a few tuffs of dryer lint.. That load is so much fun & it is accurate. Like a 30-06 for recoil. My wife/I loves shooting the big old Winchester Safari Rifle. mikeinct
