case trimming

What are the bench/F class guys using these days still going with the wilson or giraud/something else entirely. Buying a new trimmer and want to get it right this time. I've had several and haven't found any I'm completely happy with.

Buy the Wilson with micrometer adjustment and bench stand. I love mine. I make a note of length for each caliber I load, set mine up to the correct mark, and it is always spot on. I also have a Forester trimmer with stand, but its a POS.

I use the rcbs w/ the 3-way cutter. was to cheap to buy the motor I use a cordless drill attached.
the fellow that got me into this hobby uses the same setup but w/ the motor.

Wilson Trimmer here with the hand crank - no drills or electric screwdriver used. Also am able to use the Wilson Reamers on the Wilson trimmer merely by removing the handle and inserting the appropriate reamer. Works great for my purposes in a low volume (40 - 50 rds weekly) reloading and shooting set up. But then I do not compete and shoot strictly for pleasure, but ultimate accuracy from each of my BR rifles. If I were competing, the Giraud would be my choice.

P.S. For AR's, I have and use the Redding with the adjustable mic which is plenty good for gas guns.

Love the Sinclair/Wilson one simple and keeps everything square. Kinda a pain to buy a case holder for each cal but you can also use it to check concentricity as well.

I had a Wilson and couldn't justify it for the amount I trim. Also, with the caliber I was using I had to have a case holder for fired and unfired cases. Sold it and bought a different trimmer from a fellow that is no longer in business.

Why did you have to have different case holders for fired and unfired cases? Seems to me that if you sized fired cases before trimming they should be the same.

FL sizes wouldn't go into case holder completely. Using the case holder for a new case, with a fired case would only allow about 1/2 of the case neck to protrude out of the holder. Called Sinclair and that's when they advised me that the 25.06 was one of the cases that required a case holder for fired/unfired cases.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Giraud trimmer. Particularly if you are doing a large amount of brass in a single session. It's both fast and precise.

IMHO, Jay is absolutely right if accuracy and quantity (and of course your wallet can afford it) is what you seek.

might get the cadilac in the future but I bought the sinclair wilson trimmer for now. I'll keep the WFT for high volume non bench ammo. First battle i have to fight now is the micrometer adjustment. i received mine far from being zeroed like it is supposed to be. Its not exactly an easy thing to fix either. played with it and have it within .004" now so i might just call that good, its not rocket science but a pain in the rear to adjust.

i took the micro adjuster off mine and just use the standard adjuster. What i found was that if you push to hard on the cutter handle you will over trim the case so you negate the micro adjustment. I've now found the standard adjuster is just as good.

Giraud all the way. Inside bevel, outside bevel, and case length in one movement and the case is supported. Saved hours of case prep. When you want fast and simple...no other choice! The unit is solid. Yes, it's pricey but it will cut your case prep time down.
