case sizing dilemma

For the last 8-9 months I have been using a Redding Type S die for the sizing of my Win'. 25.-06 brass. After initial trial and error I settled on a .282 bushing. Different loads, powder and bullet seating and I was finally rewarded with constant .500 groups and smaller. I was a happy camper! A couple of weeks ago, having nothing to do as I await for plans for my new rifle too be finalized I decided to order 10 Lapua 30.06 cases. On arrival I resized them to .25-06 and turned the necks to .013. Went out and shot them and they shot well. So...This afternoon I decide to reload them again. So, I size them with the Redding die, (.282 bushing) and proceed to prime them. I got some bullets out and powder. Just for the he** of it I pushed a bullet, (fingers) into one of the cases. It moved back and forth with hardly any tension at all! I checked the other 9 cases and they were all the same, no tension. Unfortunately right now I don't have any Win. cases that need sizing, just to get that question out of the way. But, I had previously sized and loaded 100 rounds using the same dies and bushing with Win. cases. Everything went as normal then. So, here I sit dumbfounded and typing. Forgot to mention...I then inserted a .281 bushing in the die and the tension increased ever so slightly. Still no where close to holding the bullet enough.

the bullet is .257 and .013 +.013 is .026,,,you add it up and get .283 ,,,if you run ctg thru a .282 bushing it will "usually" spring bak to .283,,,,in other words you need a smaller/tighter bushing ,,,,if it is a Wilson brand bushing you can invert it and tighten up ~.0005".,,,,,Roger
However ,,,,common Practice says use a bushing .003 smaller than loaded rd,,,,so,,,,,.280 shuld be in the ball park,,

I do not know, I do not use neck tension, I use bullet hold. When I want the neck of my cases to hold a bullet I reduce the inside diameter. I do not have an infatuation with turning necks.

What is the neck wall thickness of your Winchester brass? If it's a uniform .013", then I'd expect you're getting more spring back with the Lapua cases.

Looks like maybe you've got gremlins in your brass and your 6br account. Have you POed any voodoo operators lately? Or, if you've got some Navajo in you, maybe a coyote crossed in front of you going to the left.

I reckon it's a spring back issue.

It's not a coyote...It would have to be an owl!! LOL.LOL.LOL. Matter of fact I'm 1/2 Navajo and 1/2 Apache. Anyway, just about 5 minutes I found a fired Win. case and sized it with the same die as the Lapua...It sized perfect!!

Maybe I got the wrong clan.....but one Utah Navajo friend of mine said he had to take a day off work to go see the medicine man after the third time a coyote crossed going left. I don't know what the medicine man did; maybe whipped him with a badger hide to toughen him up for what was coming.
