Case Prep for Norma Virgin .284 Win. Brass

I'm thinking:
1) Mandrel for neck turning (.317 chamber neck)
2) Chamfer in/out
3) Neck turn to get .317 minus .005 loaded round
4) Full length size
5) Charge and cap

The only thing I did with mine was prime them and load them. but then, I just shoot sling/irons. maybe F class or bench rest or such might need more done to them.

Ya, I’m an effer and we kind of fuss over loaded round O.D.

On Norma? Do they punch them?
I believe so.
I picked up factory norma ammo to shoot in one of my rifles. After conversations with other shooters telling me about burr's around flash hole I bought the Lyman tool.
I was surprised at how uneven they felt when turning tool. Tap case gently on a pad to remove shavings.
FWIW. Look at another flash hole reamer than lemans. My bit was left stuck in a case.
It's just glued in. I flattened a couple sides of bit and used a 2 part adhesive to glue back in. No problem since.
Guys were telling me you'll get better
es, sd #'s by doing so. Better burn on colum of powder.

Weight sort
Run cases through an expander mandrel
Turn necks if so desired
Full lenght size ( I use an S die but you could probably get away with just the expander mandrel)
Debur inside primer pocket
Uniform primer pocket
Chamfer neck
Wipe cases down w alchol
Load and shoot
Have fun

Looks good to me.
Thank’s Trev, I did modify it as the Norma is already chamfered inside. I also had a doh! moment when I had a unexpected bridge while charging the cases...I forgot to run them through the tumblr for 15 minutes after turning and sizing them. Lube will do that.

On my upcoming project I am going to use some water soluble cutting lube for the neck turning and follow it up with a couple of dunks into a tub of clean water. Here is what I am going to try using:

I don’t know why you would full length size virgin brass,,it’s as small as it will ever be…

The tolerance from the Norma factory in every aspect including the heat treatment is much tighter than anything you can do with hobby tools.

If you need to cut the necks to fit the chamber on virgin Norma brass, IMO you used the wrong reamer.

Before you fiddle with virgin Norma brass, take a good look at it first, and then keep in mind that everything you do after the first firing is to get that brass back into the same condition it is now.

Keep a few pieces aside, unmolested. After you're done with whatever you do to the rest of the brass, load them with your prepped brass, and compare the results.

I hope I’m not “hijacking”, but I’m seeing barrel shaped shoulders (2outside cases shown) after initial firing on 7mm Rem mag. Virgin CBTO is .125 short of what a fully formed case would be. Thinking a lot of unsupported portion of case during firing. Also, a lot of soot. Posting here , hoping you don’t see this. Thanks!
