That is a good way to look at it. Right now I am going to stick with RL17 till this bbl is done which should be somewhere in the fall. I am very pleased with the way the rifle shoots. But sometimes I find it really hard to get a grip on the conditions here at Oak Ridge when shooting at 1K.

That would make a good generic shooting statement. Just substitute [LOCATION] and [SHOOTING DISTANCE] where appropriate. All of us could then use it.

If it were just that easy, we could all shoot like Danny.

The ankle is doing well, thanks. I am almost back to walking normally. More importantly; my shooting has returned to previous form. We have a May 8 Palma match at Camp Pendleton for which I have been making regular sacrifices to the wind gods. It doesn't help, they don't like me.

That is the truth. Speaking of tunnels; I have always wanted to shoot in one and see just what is me and what is the wind. I understand that Sierra has a 300 meter tunnel in Sedalia, Missouri. Let's see, how could I convince them that they need me to shoot there?

Clearly, resurrecting an old thread, but I'm hoping that any members still working with the .284 Win would give me some advice on a reamer. I've been shooting a Savage 110 with a CBI barrel, which was apparently made with their match reamer and 0.220 FB. Extremely accurate. Re-barreling a Tikka T3 to make use of the long action, same cartridge. Issue is that I am having this barrel custom made, and don't know whether it makes sense to go with the standard SAAMI reamer or have the maker do something custom. FWIW, I'm using Norma .284 Win brass from bullets.com. Shooting 162- and 171-grain HPBT. Many thanks for any assistance that you all can offer.

Are you using the gun for target or hunting?
For a hunting rifle you may want a little larger chamber and less freebore than you would for a target rifle.

SheepDog - this is primarily a target rifle. I shoot hand loads, only, so will prepare a few to hunt with, but I'd estimate that it's going to be a 95/5 division of target/hunting.

My rifle's fired brass measures .321". Using norma brass and 180's the loaded dimension measures .314", I use an S type die and do not turn necks. With 6 firings no donuts, at least none that I am at present able to measure. MY free bore measures 2.545".
I believe my Smith used a zero free bore reamer and a uni throater. Hope this helps. Good luck

I may be mistaken but assume the standard SAMMI reamer is setup for a short action; i.e. little or no freebore. With the bullets you list, a 0.170 to 0.220 freebore should be about right. Since the Norma brass is so thick, you will probably have to turn the necks quite a bit unless you get a reamer spec'd for that brass (i.e. a 0.318 to 0.319 neck).
